This is not a new issue, but it is one that has been allowed to linger, for what reason I cannot imagine.

Senator Obama is eloquent, we saw that several years ago, and he has only gotten better.

But, in debate formats, or in formats not within his control, he simply underperforms.

This has been blamed on the media, how unfair ABC was, it has been blamed on horrid mind games of intimidation and brass knuckle politics by the Clintons, or on any number of scape goats.

Senator Obama, if he wants to be President, he needs to put some time in studing the great debates of generations past, get up to speed, understand your audience.

How, how can I listen to talking heads give the thumbs up to McCain?

The issues are with Obama, the need for change is palpable, but these debate confrontations are only going to get more pointed and more heated....standing pat is no alternative.

I have gone from disappointed Clinton supporter to one who vows to vote for Obama, but then I live in SC and a poll in our local paper yesterday cited a poll giving McCain a double digit lead, with only 15% of whites indicated as being Obama supporters.

Due to racism in good measure, along with good, old fashioned fear of the unknown, this will be a close election, Obama needs to find a way to up his game in debates, he does not need to give anyone an excuse to not vote for him, he cannot afford it.

If I were him I would study Bill Clinton in his 1990 debate in the town hall meeting, try to learn, its not a sign of weakness.

do not make excuses for Obama, expect and demand he do better, he cannot afford to be cool when it comes to that hot medium

for the past two months i have had the fact that the election is over drilled into my consciousness, the image of a white hot branding iron comes to mind in its effect.

despite vaccilating results the lead of Obama has been made crystal clear...the math was done, redone and certified by a cpa firm, and i thought, fool that i was, that the obama campaign would pivot and move onto McCain.

but, alas and alack, just a scan of the most recommended posts and recent ones, enought vitriol against Bubba and Hillary, gosh, why would you fine Obama supporters insist on reading every word, every facial tic, every possible interpretation negatively casting the former President and First Lady as ogres, this is indeed a funny way to campaign for Presidents, cast vile aspersions, based on skewed ideological temper tantrums, to expect the millions upon millions of people all across the country who voted for her, to then vote for what gives every impression of the angry mob of villagers chasing Frankenstein's monster, perhaps some justification for their alarm, but crowd hysteria is not pretty.

it does not appeal to me, and will not to many average person, i suggest you folks find another outlet for your fantasies, trying to place outraged victim every time a Clinton burps is getting tiresome, not to mention the need to demonize, dehumanize them, this kind of simple minded fervor rings akin to the simple minded bigotries that bush and his band of neocons and left behind Christian Zionists...you all seem to be so sure of yourselves, you know what every person means, all the time, you are indeed on a mission, if not for God, then surely for the change that you have been looking for, aforementioned change being, well, you the one who have been seeking it.

it is awfully hard to understand if you are not a part of one of these sect like movements

this early morning I scan the major media sources, as I do every day, along with many others, and as a Clinton supporter after scanning the Washington Post I mentally noted an absence of any stories about the Clinton Campaign, rather a nice summary of world events, disasters, and, of course, several items on Senator Obama and Reverend Wright, we appear to be in a rehabilitation mode for the Reverend, based on the available verbage.

this did not shock me..so I peruse the New York Times and, again, an absence of any stories about Clinton, with one column breathlessly describing how Obama is retooling hid message to reflect real or perceived problems with blue collar or Catholic or whatever voters....alas, I think to myself, another blank insofar as Clinton, but, lo, up in the corner, in smaller print a praising column by Bill Kristol.

hmmmm...I mused, that is sure going to get Hillary some traction with the effete liberals who have all been calling for her public execution, at dawn and televised around the world, a laudatory column by a neo-con architect of the war in Iraq.

wow...but then I read the following comment in Kristol's piece, which, interestingly enough, I found nowhere on these respected media sources, nor, after perusing TPM...if you allow my poor non-computer person to cut and paste the following, which you can read in the Times site, of course:

Hillary has achieved this despite much disparagement of her candidacy by liberal commentators, and in the face of the media’s crush on Obama. Even those who started out being well disposed to Clinton have moved toward Obama, if only out of concern that the prolonged race is damaging Democratic prospects in the fall.

Obama understands his advantage with the media, as he perhaps inadvertently demonstrated over the weekend on “Fox News Sunday.” In the course of dismissing much pundit commentary for typically overreacting to events, good or bad, Obama explained, “Well, look, after you lose, then everybody writes these anguished columns about, why did you lose?”

Obama chose a nice word: “anguished.” You’re only anguished by an Obama defeat if you’re rooting for an Obama victory. Obama was tacitly acknowledging that much of the liberal media has been hoping he’d win. Now, they’re rooting for him to close the deal

The title of the Kristol piece is "Hillary gets no respect".
Again, I typically would not be heartened by the comments of Bill Kristol, but do find it remarkable he seized on comments by Obama clearly showing he knows the media is in the tank for him.

I guess that is why he got so pissed off at George S & C Gibson from ABC, I mean, did they forget that they were supposed to be anquished.

Anquished, it is a word that fits well the circumstance of liberal politics now, you fiery Obama supporters of TPM...and, as well for people like me, anquished that my voice is ridiculed and mocked, run off, ignored, how do you like them apples son?

Many of us do not like having our views demeaned, we like being ignored even less, so as you go about your daily tasks of being anquished over any and every thing that does not fit into your square holes, some of round objects, otherwise indistinquishable from you in make up, composition, whatever, but you want to ignore us.

yes, Hillary has become a marvellous candidate, Obama has faded and is fading as we speak, but dare not let us admit anything negative, do not allow it, do not let it into your heads, cause, I sypathize with your disability...your anquish over not getting what you want when you want it.

grow up liberal weenies...there are some of us out here who are tough as nails, ready to rumba and your biased slip is showing maam

he was going to take them on, but apparently played the continued prevent defense, do not say anything to tip the boat...having said enough to cause sizeable listing.

he apparently wants to distance himself from some of his, uh, well, more unsteady supporters ready to brand the clintons and the second coming of nathan bedford forrest and scarlett o'hara...which group includes wide swaths of the liberal blogashere, including this one.

if obama is willing to foreswear these vile insuations about racism and trying to destroy obama so he cannot win, then i suggest his more ludicrous followers try to head his call, because the arrogance is not working, the do the math, no chance, give up hillary arrogance, along with the trashing of the clintons, quite unfairly history will show, this attitude that settled about the obama supporters and campaign is quite a toxic brew, the american people do not like cocky, know it all smart kids, they appreciate confidence and smarts, but do not appreciate having their own deficiencies rubbed in their noses by those who would deign to tell someone when to quit, accuse of heinous offenses and generally act like a group of spoiled children

get over it, we need obama to show some heart, some fire for what he wants, and we get, well, not hot water and steam but a tepid spray.

i am 60 i have seen more than one golden boy who was going to change politics....they aint changed yet

with all due respect, who appointed the rep as the spokesman for anything. face it, he is the product of gop gerrymandering, providing s.c. with a safe black seat, with a district that looks like an octopus.

i respect rep clyburn, he is a good guy, but his comments about the clintons trying to make sure obama cannot be elected in the general election indicate the poor man must be smoking something good.

it is his right to criticize the clintons if he wishes, he has already done so. the bottom line is this: bill clinton does not owe black people a duty to not support his own wife vociferously in this campaign.

as for this kitchen sink line, big freaking deal, that phraseology has been around in politics for a long time, it simply indicates a campaign is frustrated cause it is not getting traction...so you change your strategy.

throwing the kitchen sink simply means throwing a bunch of stuff up in the air and hope....it is not bill clintons fault that obama has ties to a pastor who is still, to this day muddling the waters, terming obama's distancing of himself from reverend wright as just politics....huh? i thought it was new politics?'

it was not the clintons that made obama make really dumb comments in california about pennlyvania voters.

it was not the clintons who made obama associate with an unrepentant former bomber and play stage terrorist asshat ayers...as a grizzled old dude who lived in those days, i feel only pity for a person who can pretend to be a revolutionary then plays middle class games yet yearns to have killed more, bombed more...it was not bill clinton who created this.

it was not bill clinton during the debate asked obama uncomfortable questions, it was not bill clinton that made obama look uncomfortable while hillary looked presidential\

look, listen up, word up...we are seeing a first, a real live strong black candidate...and we are witnessing a dynamic which has never been seen. words that may have been used in the past suddenly develop baggage, and once tarred with the racist, extremist, radical, whatever label, somehow life and events and misfortune lead people to say stupid stuff sometimes they wish they had phrased better, but once said, well it sits.

bill and hillary clinton are not racists, having lived in south carolina almost all my life i know what racism is...i am old enough that i recall as a young boy driving on a light rainy night passing an area where a cross was burning, the klan was meeting. i have seen racial deprivation and bigotry closer than most white people, not a pleasant thing to say, but its true. i have seen gray haired black men have to lower their eyes and kowtow to young moronic white boys.

as a long time democrat, a southerner who has tried in his life to strive for equal treatment for all, i do not think i am a racist, though no doubt my heritage does leave a mark on me...the clintons are not racists

they are politicians struggling, striving, fighting, scratching and clawing towards a goal...this is what running for president is about...you either go all out, or you need to go home, the fire in the belly is another phrase, old politics, but its a truism nonetheless.

facing an attractive, eloquent man like obama is not an easy task, but eventually its a brutal experience, do not blame the clintons for the atmosphere in which we now find ourselves, but like any politician, when given weapons, they will use them, but that does not make the public concerned about these issues that haunt obama, the public decides what is important...throw it up in the air and guess what? obamas own associations and comments helped them stick.

so, representative clyburn with all due respect, you should know better...as a good politician..but i think, as my comments might infer, that the obama folks are getting pissed off at the wrong person.

blame obama, its his past and words that are harming him, not bill clinton...you know, its, hmmm, what? oh, i know, its a distraction.

      boo boo.

ok, wow, tough day at the primary polling places in pennslyvania, with a huge money advantage, the media telling everyone for weeks upon weeks clinton is dead, she cannot win, its all over...yet and all hillary smoked obamas ass yesterday.

it is awesome to see a group of liberals in a fog, unable to face the simple facts of life: the obama campaign has had every chance, every opportunity and advantage for months, and here he still cannot close the deal.

simple message from someone who finds it hard to get on this blog, too many comments or too harsh of comments probably make up the cause, but i am a south carolina resident, having lived in florida and north carolina at times, i am a born and bred southern white guy, 60, i do have a college degree, my lapses in english notwithstanding, i grew up in racism that would curdle your milk if i got within a mile of your home. i am a lifelong democrat, i try not to be a racist, though i am self aware enough to know with my upbringing and conditioning, its a struggle, but one i gladly undertake, and with some success i hope, but here goes:

obama is not going to win blue collar white voters in middle america, he has zero chance in any southern state.

it may be unfair, it may be and likely is racist to some degree, but obama has developed an image that is suceptible to demogoguery & his recent comments have only solidified that image

the posts here are overwhelmingly positive for obama. it is surely as if we have been transported into a different dimension, where a bad loss is taken with smiles, hugs all around, its over, and hey, why doesnt she drop out now?

there is a paucity of drop out now hillary posts...for small favors i thank you supreme being

hmmmm.....I am betting Senator Obama is wishing he had come to that conclusion before the most recent debate. And, given the knee jerk support by Dean and Pelosi & others, its not surprising that after the horrid performance of their favored candidate, they want it over, pretty please, make it stop, the clearly solidifying image of Obama as a snooty, petulant person is hurting us, we realize its going to be disaster come the general election, but we must, now we have to make sure Obama wins, otherwise we look really, really stupid.

When will the Obama accolytes finally realize their candidate, while awesome as a speech giver, is not that good on his feet, debate style, when things begin to go in a direction, or distraction, he does not like, well, sorry, he cannot pout.

the pennslyvania primary is so close, so now Dean wants a decision, and Obama says no mas to debates, hm, signs of worrisome worry to me, I say let more voters vote, what are they afraid of?

Will Senator Obama boycott debates if he wins the nomination and those pesky media papparazzi types ask him intolerable, insulting questions?

The emperor has no clothes, except for that speech giving tee shirt....he has baggage, he does not look Presidential in a crucial debate, its getting harder and harder to tolerate those pesky voters, who knows what those bitter, clingy people out there in WalMartLand might do??? they are scary, those pesky moderators and pesky voters, what oh what shall we do about them?
