Bill and Hillary Clinton are out to win.......at ANY cost..... We have all seen this movie before. Let's think back to Bill's White House....... When he arrived in Washington, DC there was a democratic House and Senate. He squandered the opportunity to do some REALLY great things for the public and instead sold the party down the river enacting Republican ideas, i.e. NAFTA. The democrats lost control of the House and the Senate. Next, he catered to his own peccadillos with the infamous Ms. Monica. He embarrassed our country and our party and refused to resign. Had he resigned, I believe Al Gore would have gone on to win the presidency. Instead, he stayed and was impeached, and in the end, we got George Bush. 'nuff said.
Hillary believes it is her turn. She had everything working in her favor: the right last name, the organization, the party faithful, the money......she had it ALL. She thought she was going to ascend her throne as Queen of America.....I mean go on to become PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Unfortunately, her brilliant plan went awry when a certain half African, half American, junior senator from Illinois stepped into the spotlight with a transformative message of CHANGE. He ran a brilliant bottom-up campaign and used technology to tap into new sources of funding as well as organization and voters. Barack Obama and his team were genius in their strategy and out-planned,out-organized, out-fundraised the vaunted Clinton Machine.
Hillary decided that NO ONE was going to take away HER THRONE, and she doesn't care if she has to destroy the party to ascend to it. What is tragic is that if she somehow manages to steal the nomination, our party is not only going to lose the African American vote, but the opportunity that we have to draw a whole new generation of voters into our party will be lost.
Finally, as an African-American, female voter in Florida, it hurts a lot to hear comments like those from Geraldine Ferraro and other Hillary surrogates. She is suddenly indignant to be called out on her racist language that she used in 1988, but we all know that if sexist language were used to undermine Hillary's candidacy there would be pandemonium in the streets by feminists. Where are the so-called African-American leaders? Where is Jimmy Carter, Al Gore? If Rush Limbaugh had said something in that vein, his show would be off the air by tomorrow. Yet we give these supposed white Democrats an undeserved pass as they spew the putrid venom of racism. I don't mind calling it out and believe me that is why most black people are voting for Obama because they realize that they have been used and abused by the Democratic party one time too many. We are okay as long as we stick to running for congressional seats and state seats. Black governor or senator.....as long as there are not more than 1 or 2. But if you have the AUDACITY to run for president, then you can only win by some design or trickery or just plain dumb luck! Gerry wants Barack Obama to go back to the corner like a good BOY, with the rest of the blacks that vote 85-95% for democratic nominees, and stay in his place because its Hillary's turn. The party that I have waved signs for, knocked on doors for, and donated to stands SILENTLY by and allows this bloodletting at the hands of Hillary and her surrogates to continue. They are sitting by SILENTLY while she campaigns to change the rules for two states (one my home state) that flaunted the party rules and lost in the courts. Even if Barack Obama somehow manages to limp out of Denver with the nomination, it is CRYSTAL CLEAR to me that Billary, et al want to make sure that he loses to McCain so that she can get another shot at the nomination in 4 years.
As I finish this, my first blog on TPM, I don't see how I can continue to be a member of a party that is so self-destructive and frankly undeserving of any critical-thinking voter. I am sorely tempted to cut my Voter ID card in half and change parties, but I don't REALLY want to be a Republican or an Independent. The problem is I don't REALLY want to be a Democrat either (anymore).
