"convicted" is the new "is"!

Actually, it sounds like a particular school of thought would consider him technically correct. I bet millions of other not-quite-convicted people (or, even more so, people who have cases on appeal) would appreciate similar consideration, though.

I found it interesting that the lawyer at the end explained the case was different because it's Ted Stevens and not "Joe Sixpack." I'd like Sarah Palin, great champion of said Mr. Sixpack, to respond to that particular comment, please.

Yep. The notion that McCain has received unfair treatment at the hands of the press is the broader version of the "balance" argument. You must pretend both campaigns have acted in ways that warrant criticism or skepticism equally, even if that clearly isn't the case.

And, incidentally, the Obama campaign was criticized quite a bit earlier in the campaign for not "attacking" more. So they even tried to make a negative out of relatively clean campaigning.

Most polls have shown that people believe McCain has run the more negative campaign and that Obama has received less criticism from the press. I have yet to see a poll that asks folks if they believe the former fact justifies the latter.

Beyond the simple idiocy of the claim at its core, the irony to me is that, if we were to entertain Palin's assertion, wouldn't her casting of Obama's associations as negative in the first place, and her call for the media to portray them similarly, be a violation of the First Amendment's "right of the people peaceably to assemble"?

While I'm replying to my own comment: As an analogy, I've noticed some actors and directors do a blockbuster every now and then so they can maintain the resources and exposure to do the films they know have less mass appeal but think are important . . .
