Now I'm Pissed Off -
Okay. If nobody cares about my blog it works for me, there's always next time. No skin off my nose - no harm, no foul.
But pushed down the reader list by idiotic spam? Five loan "posts"? Come on TPM - how many times must we go through this? These are not the first, tonight is not their virgin foray into TPMCafe waters.
I know you're trying, and I understand you can't be all-seeing and all-encompassing. I know that these types of spam are gnats. But is it possible to not only delete them when discovered - but to resurrect the blogs that are lost within their used time frame? Possibly, probably not.
But I'm still royally pissed off.

Better to be pissed off than pissed on.

And when you're both?

I have been real busy this week. Which is a good thing for me. Believe me.
I missed this. I missed the spam somehow.
I usually push the abuse button or whatever and I do a strong 'letter to the editor'.
I shall work harder to remain vigilant.

I try to report each one I come across every morning. I shall continue to do so.

I just received a reply from The Powers That Be. The spam is being removed :-)

There really are not a lot of posts being made such taht TPM could not, at the moment a new one emerges, delete the spam. Seriously, how many posts are there that managint o ferret out spam is so difficult? One can easily see which posts are informing and which are selling. I suspect there is simply an intern or someone of that level of responsibility who dropped the ball. But none of this diminishes my anger that they intrude here and TPM permits them to exist far too long.

The irony is that with 10 recs at noon today, this blog will likely be holding a top spot on the list for the better part of it's life.

This morning, I responded and reported the spam posts that pushed good content down and off. Versha is usually cheerful when I report these posts but not quick to delete.
Given the fact that the blog posts on the righthand side of the page are often more compelling than the lefthand side....

Well, well, it appears that Doreen Resnick has left the building. I wonder if she's related to the Resnicks of Richmong Hill?

Sorry, I meant Richmond Hill, a section of Queens, NY.

Well, take it from me. Discussions of murder and poisoning don't get much attention either. If this is true, what does it mean?

Wonder if they ever do backups?
July 21, 2009 12:08 AM | Reply | Permalink
Even if not backups, the posts don't disappear from the server that quickly. They could repost without changing the time stamp - meaning that some time may be lost but the post can be resurrected without much hassle.

I was actually being tech-snarky. Backups are another routine task that sloppy IT guys often miss (cough ... cough).
But I think you can change the time stamp yourself by changing the "published date" (and time) when editing the entry. Occasionally folks do it for a major update to an article - nice because the original comments stay with the post; sucky because the recs also come along with it. I can't imagine anyone would mind if you bumped one back up the list because it never got a shot due to SPAM. (I think that's what you're looking for ... a sort of "reset" button?).
...and my snarky butt is off to do some neglected backups :-)

Snark or otherwise (cough, cough), the point isn't just about my posts. Yes, I could do what you suggest, though it would feel ... odd. But what of others? Why can't the folks at TPM who need our contributions -don't imagine they don't- make up for time lost to spam they neglect to delete by simply re-publishing posts?
