Should I Throw It In The Oven?

Hi there, come on in.  Find yourself a seat, the sofa is available, as is the ugly blue chair.  Then again, there's always my favorite spot - the floor with a couple of really soft pillows.  Tell you what.  Find your own spot and save me a pillow or two at your feet.  It's been too long and I need the peacefulness of your voice.  Your hand on my shoulder, my elbow on your knee as we laugh together.  Together.  Now there's a great word.  I'll go grab a couple of glasses of Zin for us and be right back.  What?  Oh, goodness, I didn't even notice!  I'm so sorry.  Is it all right at room temperature or should I throw it in the oven on low?

Will you change the music, please?  You know the drill ... you have music duty, you choose the tunes.  Very nice, very mellow.  I knew I could count on - was that the door?  Hi there!  Come on in.  It's never too late, we're all friends here.

I'm soooooooo glad the light is on tonight. I was just telling a few friends about what a great place this is. I hope they stop by, they're going to love you as much as I do!

Can I help with anything? How about when you come back with that wine I give you a nice foot rub? Or would you prefer shoulders? your pick. I've missed you so.

user-pic

Shoulders would be wonderful, still. You did pull up some pillows for me, didn't you? Well, I'll hope to see your friends then, too. You know everyone's welcome!

user-pic

I'll do the music. Let's start with Roberta Flack's "Killing Me Softly". Next up: Queen Latifah's very fine cover of "California Dreaming".

Room temp is perfect, Missy. Come sit down and let Stilli rub your shoulders. You've had a long day.

user-pic

I'd forgotten about your DJ skills, Lis. Perfect choices, both. Since room temp will work, I'll get some forks ... or spoons. I also have some beer in the frig.

How was your day, still? And you, Lis, what trouble have you gotten into?

user-pic

Me? Oh, trouble and I are very good friends, yes. But I must behave tomorrow because it's my year-end review at work and I've been a terrible employee all year. Well, actually, I had some bright, shining moments, momentarily, but a lot of absenteeism. I'll be lucky if I leave my boss' office without having used any Kleenex, let alone with a raise or bonus. He's so patient, but I really have taxed him this year.

But, enough of my worries. Thanks for the beer!

Next song: Joni Mitchell's "River". It is the holiday, after all.

user-pic

Perhaps you can summon a few of those subtle qualities you have to remind him of those shining moments, eh? Softly agree with some of the dressing down, earnestly promise to learn from your mistakes and smile brightly as you thank him for the confidence he's shown in you. Leave the Kleenex untouched, I have no doubt that you're better than you think you are. No worries!

user-pic

You are a sweetheart. I feel better already.

Next up: "Do the Walls Come Down" by Carly Simon.

user-pic

You'll charm his pants, er I mean, socks off, Lissy!
Good luck! BTW great musical choices...

user-pic

Thanks for asking, Missy...I had a great day, on several different levels. Played w/ friends in town much of the day. Dickday is my new pal, (I call him Arthur...started out calling him "crotch" since he calls himself a crotchety old man, but he wasn't going for that!) We've been basically chasing each other all over laughing at each other for 2 days...It's been fun. I hope you'll get to meet him soon. He's funny. Then I blew off some steam in a couple of rants, then had a very nice conversation with a young man who was my checker at Trader Joe's and spent some time w/ Hannah...Had a little melt down as we approach the 1 year anniversary of our daughter's death (on the 23rd) but talked and remembered our way through it...wish all days could be this good.

user-pic

*hugs Stilli*

user-pic

Thanks, Lissy!

user-pic

Still - either I didn't know or I'd forgotten. I know offering my condolences is barely adequate, the loss of a child is the greatest of losses.

We're here for you...

user-pic

Thanks, OG...stepdaughter, actually, but she was mine for 36 years and I miss her. In all likelihood you didn't know...don't often talk about it. You guys are ALWAYS here for me and I appreciate that so much!

user-pic

I've seen Dickday a few times, seems like a good fellow. Perhaps he'll see the light on.

Time spent with Hannah, what a wonderful way to embrace the future even as you remember what once was. Talking to those you love ... you're a smart lady to recognize how important that is.

All days can be good! Even if you have to squint really hard to find the moments. ;)

user-pic

How are you doin, darlin'? Your neck feels tense, is this helping? My husband says I have magic hands, hope they are working for you!

user-pic

Feels great, still, thanks. Tension tends to build over time. But your hands must be tired, can I get you another glass of wine?

user-pic

I don't know...any more than one and I get a little goofy...oh what the heck, yeah I'll go for one more, light! Thanks!

user-pic

Yea, so now you're blaming the wine? Coming right up.

user-pic

LOL!! Silly Stilli, I don't think it's the wine. You're just such a love even whilst sober.

user-pic

Now playing: "For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her" by Simon & Garfunkel.

Next up: "If Not Now....Then When" by Tracy Chapman.

I'm gonna grab another bite and another beer, okay, Missy?

user-pic

Help yourself, I'm enjoying the music.

user-pic

Here's another good one: John Legend's "Show Me".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mmn_3XXoPTM

user-pic

Snow Patrol, "Chasing Cars":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfZUxPF7AMI

user-pic

That happens to be one of my new very favorite songs ...

user-pic

That was both a beautiful song and beautiful photography, thank you!

user-pic

I've just recently gotten into Snow Patrol. I also love their song, "Take Back the City".

Cute story: Every morning I listen to Matt Pinfield on RXP 101.9 in the car on my way to work, and about two weeks ago Snow Patrol was interviewed by Matt live in the studio. Matt asked them to play a song, so they did a beautiful acoustic version of "Chasing Cars". In the second verse, the lead singer forgot the lyrics and went silent for a moment, and then quickly caught himself up and started singing again....

The second verse? "I don't quite know...how to say...how I feel"

LOL! He chuckled over it a good deal after he finished the song.

user-pic

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsQ37_sIbDs

Johnny Nash, he can see clearly now...

Nice touch, he's in Washington DC.

user-pic

I got here late. I didn't get it. Hope I am not interfering.

user-pic

Hi there, late is never a problem. What didn't you get? And as for interfering ... that must be that sense of humor I've noticed so often. ;)

user-pic

Of course you're not interfering, Dickie! Welcome!! Beer, or wine? Any musical requests?

user-pic

Glad to see you! Did you get the invite? I didn't realize Missy was going to have the lights on tonight until late, otherwise I would have invited you earlier. I'm so glad you are here...these are my peeps, and I want you to get to know them!

Not too many here tonight, out of the habit, I think. But quiet is nice...did you grab a beer or a glass of wine?

user-pic

It looks like I was too late. I can see clearly now has got to be in my top ten of all time. I have hardware problems and I cannot hear but I could read his lips and I know that song. And I cant believe it was done right in front of the White House--what do we have now, 37 days?

user-pic

Only 37? Lordy, I have to get my Amtrak tix soon! Oh, and I have to ask the boss for three days off. Ouch.

user-pic

I'd wait until AFTER your review, Lissy! I'm so jealous! I'll be in Hawaii, which isn't a bad consolation prize, but I'll be watching and waiting for your report on just how wonderful it was!

user-pic

There is a trick to this.

YES, YES, YES, YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE I KNOW WHO IS GOING. SOMEONE TO TALK TO AND GET A CHANCE TO FEEL WHAT IT WAS LIKE.

i have a time delay here and it takes a while to get the response on screen.

user-pic

Well, I HOPE to be going. It all depends on the cost of Amtrak tickets, and whether or not my boss will give me the time off. Some of my TPM buddies and I have a room reserved already, so the hotel is not an issue (except for the cost of it). However, we have no tickets to anything, so we'll be lucky if we get anywhere near the parade or the Mall.

But just to be there, wow....it will be so worth it to me. Just to be near it.

I promise that if I go, I will write a blog about it. AND post pictures. Cross my heart.

user-pic

So, Mr. Day. Are you warmer tonight?

user-pic

You know, I forgot he popped in the other night...and here I thought I was bringing him to this hot new joint, when he'd already discovered it for himself!

user-pic

That is right. yes, yes, yes. Anywhere near there. It is --ohh--this is the BIGGEST THING and I can see all obstacle disappear... FOR ONE SHINING MOMENT Camelot...All the evil ones will be planning and cniving and it wont matter.

user-pic

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MrIHH2zdBc&NR=1

Fiona Apple gives us all a "First Taste".

Enjoy!

user-pic

I am warmer tonite. By the way, once a month I have a short whiskey and then I sip on a couple of beers. Wine never worked for me. I feel a lot warmer. this is cute. never never land. now i am embarrassed. someone else talk

user-pic

Jump in wherever you want, just make sure you hit the reply key, so your words come up in the right place...We all talk over each other, just like you would cozied up on the sofa in someone's living room...don't be embarrassed...this is the BEST place, you just have to get past the part where it's like not ACTUALLY happening, just virtually!

user-pic

Okay. This would be me talking. Last time I checked, I'm someone else. Gosh, now that I read that it's a bit off, isn't it? Anyway, Mr. Day (just a poet at heart) - it's impossible to be embarrassed here. We're far too busy laughing at each other to care. ;)

user-pic

That's the truth!

user-pic

Hey all - I don't think I've ever been up late enough to drop in and say hi. There are perks to being on winter break and having stopped up drains after all...

user-pic

...unless I'm crashing your party...

user-pic

Burned these pictures--logos are so small. are you supposed to be tigger or a bear?

user-pic

Tiger (Hobbes from the comic strip).

Roar

user-pic

No such thing as crashing around here! Good to see you! It's pretty much serve yourself, unless someone is already up...beer in the fridge, wine around somewhere, Missy where is whatever that was you were thinking about warming up? I'm starving all of a sudden!

user-pic

Stilli I managed to see your chicken dance. Oh and I told Lisb that a woman will be our new SEC chair.
I know its politics but it isn't really. A woman is going to push some very bad men around.

user-pic

I think it was Bwakfat who showed you the chicken dance. Stilli can do a mean chicken dance too, though, when she's had more than two glasses of wine.... ;)

user-pic

Lissy, I found a chicken dance I thought looked more like bwak! It's on the same post...

user-pic

It reminded me of bwakfat! Hmmmm.....pushing men around...what could possibly make you think I'd like that?

user-pic

Right? I much prefer a gentle spanking, myself...

user-pic

Don't EVEN go there! You wouldn't respect me in the morning! Don't even TRY to get a visual, it will scar you for life!

user-pic

OOPS! Lis and I ate it all. I have some sort of spreadable cheese stuff and crackers ... it was really good last night ... want some?

user-pic

Hello, Dem, good to see you. At the risk of repeating myself, this particular place is impossible to crash. Open doors, lights on (although sometimes dimmed with the mood) and lots of friends. Everyone can say whatever's on their mind because recommends aren't allowed. So when folks go home and the evening's over, so is the conversation. 'Til next time. Just like a friendly living room.

user-pic

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUc-JPqUiS0

Patti Smith is "Dancing Barefoot".

No, burnedoutdem, you're not crashing at all. Beer or wine, luv?

user-pic

I brought a bottle of merlot to share, actually :\

user-pic

Would you like some?

user-pic

Oh, red wine and I don't always agree come morning. I will stick with my beer, thanks. Nice to see you. Dickday asked, up thread, whether you are tigger or a bear. I guess he doesn't know Calvin and Hobbes. Care to introduce yourself to him?

user-pic

Cool! If you prefer it chilled, the frig is in that room over there with the sink and the oven. Ignore the dirty dishes, unless you feel the need to wash them. I've managed to fight the urge so far ...

user-pic

Wow - looks like I got here really late.

Any wine left?

How 'bout Ellen Foley's "Spirit of St. Louis"? The whole CD is good - and Lis, there's one that's really a Clash song* with Foley singing along.
(She was hangin' with Mick Jones at the time...)

* Torchlight

user-pic

There's always wine left for you, me. Even if I have to break out the stash. Usually means the really cheap stuff but never mind that ...

user-pic

Even cheap wine from you I'd prefer to Chateau Lafite from anyone else.

user-pic

Just for that, I might have a decent bottle of something around here somewhere. Perfect for some evening when the moon is rising while the sun sets.

user-pic

Ssshhhhhh...not so loud...

Anything's fine tonight, really. The music's good - and yet not loud enough to alarm the neighbors, and the company's certainly good.

user-pic

Then here's a glass of Zin, just refilled mine. Here's to good company ...

user-pic

Hey, OG, nice crowd, huh? Glad you made it!

user-pic

Yeah - it's crowded in here tonight. Not a problem though - just makes it livelier.

user-pic

Can't find it on youtube, although they have a version of her cover of Mick's "Should I Stay or Should I Go". Here is Night Court's own Ellen Foley singing "We Belong to the Night" which has nothing to do with Pat Benatar's song, apparently:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdqxVc_9MIk

For those of you who, like me, for years never realized the crazy blond from Night Court could sing, you may recognize her voice in Meatloaf's "Paradise by the Dashboard Light".

user-pic

Well, in fairness, she was only on there for a year (?) before being replaced by Markie Post.

Yeah - what pipes, though.

Maybe the best track on the album is her rendition of "My Legionnaire" - yep, The Clash and art songs, all in one.

user-pic

Lissy, you are outdoing yourself w/ the music tonight! I might have to dance just a little!

user-pic

The music is good. I can hear it in my head. I thought a quick Christmas story was in order? No?

More than twenty five years ago my two kids were swinging in the backyard. The window was open and the screens were on. Seanny, the 4 year old, piped up and said:
Erin. Is Jesus real?

And Erin the 6 year old said:

Yes, Seanny he is real.

Seanny asked:

Where is Jesus, Erin?

Erin said:

He is everywhere, he is here right now.

So Seanny asked: Well, is Jesus real like Santa Claus or is he pretend like the Easter Bunny?

We signed up for church the next week.

Merry Christmas.

user-pic

Sweet! Out of the mouths of babes...

user-pic

That's great! Kids say the cutest things, don't they?

My Hannah, age not quite 3 at the time, walked up to the electrician who was doing some work in my kitchen and just as seriously as could be said to him, "it's not good to get poopies in yow bagina." She was potty training and thought that was important information for him to know.

user-pic

OMG, I am literally laughing out loud, Stilli!!

user-pic

I know, I get tears running down my face everytime I tell that story, and I'll bet he's told it more than once!

user-pic

Ok, that's it, still. I'm cutting off the wine. Just as soon as I wipe the tears of laughter away so I can see ...

user-pic

Can't you just picture that sweet, innocent little face saying that?

user-pic

Nice. Merry Christmas, Mr. Day.

user-pic

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NBfTpVBxF8

Phoebe Snow's "Poetry Man". Queen Latifah does a great cover of this song as well.

user-pic

Hey Lis - I just remembered - a long-ago girlfriend was a college classmate of Phoebe Snow (then Phoebe Laub).

The things we remember at times...

user-pic

ha ha ha ha ha On the soup they always show Oprah talking about her VJ or something like that

user-pic

get it right...va jay jay! You're on thin ice, here, young man!

user-pic

I am sorry. really. it was the gentle spanking remark that got to me i guess. WHAT?

user-pic

Lis - can you dig up the Van Morrison double live San Francisco set? So much great stuff on there - maybe my fave version of "Bring it on Home to Me", as well as a bunch of other classic R&B in addition to smoky live renditions of his regular hits.

(I was fortunate enough to have caught him live many years ago - ever seen someone take a 10,000 seat hall and make it feel like a club?)

user-pic

I'm sorry, Ole Grouch, but I'm not able to find any Van Morrison from San Fran. YouTube is suddenly giving me issues. Any other requests?

LOL, as a side note, my cat Wallace is trying to tell me it's time to go to bed. He's sitting on the mouse wire. I kept yanking on my damn mouse and it kept sliding off the desk, so I looked down at the floor and there's Wallace, curled up all nice and innocent on my mouse wire....lil bugger.

Grouch, would you settle for a Moondance video?

user-pic

No problem.

That SanFran set was waaay old. Not surprised nothing from it's anywhere around. All I have is the LP, and no place to plug in a turntable.

user-pic

I have nothing to add, except to say 71 COMMENTS!!!!

My goodness. Looks like the place has taken off. You might have to start screening the guests a bit, Melissa. I've got bouncer skills if you need them. And if you want to see intimidating, look here.

http://www.eventpictures.com/app/event/zoomPictures?eventInstanceId=16694&picture=3815526

That even scares me, and I know the guy. Okay, I am the guy. And I don't know him that well.

Hope everyone's well.

user-pic

Hey, Matt! Good to see you. See what happens when she doesn't open up for awhile? Full house!

Are you still running?

user-pic

Whenever the lights are on, I look especially for you, Matt. That's me, leaning slightly out the door, looking down the way. For you.

user-pic

I think we're only two comments away from 100, now. Quite the party!

user-pic

Indeed. Go figure.

user-pic

We missed you...no big surprise to me!

user-pic

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dipFMJckZOM

Don McLean's "Vincent" with pictures from none other than Vincent. Meantime, I'll try to accommodate The Old Grouch with some Van Morrison shortly.

user-pic

No wonder you're always in trouble...aren't you supposed to leave for work pretty soon?!

user-pic

Yeah, in a few hours. It's okay, I'm a night owl who can get up early when she has to.

user-pic

Those very words have come out of my mouth more times than I care to admit. What a shame the rest of the world is out of sync.

user-pic

Vincent. After looking at some self portraits I now understand why Kirk Douglas had to do that role.
You know John Wayne admonished him for doing such a 'sissy' thing.

user-pic

Thank you very much for the hospitality Barefoot. A party inside the internet...My computer is crashing (youknow cookies or temp files or whatever. And I am also crashing)

Thank you, thank you thank you

user-pic

Does that mean you're going to bed too? I'm hitting the sack in about two minutes. But first, a moondance -- my love:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I21Ods4gH0I

user-pic

g'night, lis! again, good luck w/ your review!

user-pic

Thank you, sweet Stilli. And, hey, let's all do this again on the 23rd, okay? Much love to you and yours.

user-pic

That is soooooo sweet, Thank you! I'll be here!

user-pic

g'night, Arthur...see you tomorrow!

user-pic

Is Arthur his real name, or do you call him that because of his favorite book?

user-pic

no, he was on a blog about dick chenney and didn't want anyone to get him mixed up with the other Dick he suggested maybe he should himself Arthur, and since he was taking offense at me calling him "crotch" short for crotchety old man (as he calls himself in his bio) I landed on Arthur, and it is sorta sticking!

user-pic

You're sleeping. But I hope you'll see sometime that I'm glad you wandered in, Mr. Day.

user-pic

Lordy be, Missy! You've over 100 comments. And I am up past my usual bedtime (no worries, Stilli, I am going to work on time in the morning).

I've missed the visits with you, Miss Barefooted, and I'm so glad we had this night.

By the way, what exactly was it that we were eating for dinner at room temperature, LOL?

It was delicious.

Good night, and sweet dreams,

Lis xoxo

user-pic

I have no idea what we ate, Lis, but we had a damned fine time doing it. Best of luck tomorrow, but other than the need to stifle a yawn, you won't neeed it.

Tonight has been grand. Thank you. 'Night.

user-pic

Well, shall we close the night out with a final toast? To good friends...Love you, Missy!

user-pic

'Night, M...

user-pic

Thanks so much, everyone. You done my heart good.

See you soon. Sleep peacefully.

user-pic

Well as usual, I'm closin' the joint. Sorry I missed you all. If anybody's still up here's my
musical treat for the night. G'night...

user-pic

By the way...That was quite the party you threw last night. Let me know if you need help cleaning up.
