Will You Tell Me Why?
Hi there, come on in. Very late, I'm sorry to keep you. Another long and exhausting day spent dealing with aggravations and problems galore. You, too? Believe me, I completely understand. Give me your coat, have a seat on the sofa and make yourself comfortable. Warm beverage in a mug or chilled wine in a glass? The choice is yours ... as it always is in my living room. Leave the world outside behind the closed door. Relax. Take a deep breath and let it all go away.
No need to respond, silence is a beautiful addition to the peace we've found here together. Yet, should I notice the secret smile - will you tell me why?

Why the smile? No real reason, I guess. Nice that you're still letting in guests tonight, smiling because I always like the idea of a hostess who welcomes her guests. Smiling because, despite the chaos outside, there's a beach in the Bahamas that has pink sand, and one day I'm going to make love to the right woman on it. It will outlast us all. That's enough reason to smile, isn't it?

No doubt about it, Matt, none at all. That pink sand is waiting for you and the right woman ... when the right time comes along. 'Til then? Hold on to that smile.

I'll do my best. How are you tonight? You seem cheery and whistful.

Still up? How's it going? Had a good evening tonight - celebrated a particular success for a small but significant team project. Saw a few people I haven't seen in some time, too.
So we did well, and enjoyed it...that's my smile story.

Excellent! And of course I'm still up, me. Congratulations on your success, something significant is never small - especially when accomplished as part of a team. Well done!

Good description! That's pretty much it, a bit tired. But enjoying the late evening down time. When so much of the world is asleep, it seems to open the space for us night owls. How are you?

Is the world asleep? It's nighttime from, what, Boston to Moscow? That's a lot of sleeping people. So early-nighters might even be heading to bed this far west.... and some early-risers might be waking up in Europe or Africa. My secret smile? Right now, I'm thinking about all those people. Going about their daily business. Falling in love. Getting in fights. Finding simple meaning and peace in their friends and family. And all those sleeping people? I wonder what dreams they dream....

Why, that's just lovely. Thank you for that thought, Paige. Do you suppose their dreams will come true? And those busy falling in love ... what will their dreams hold when they close their eyes?

The people falling in love? I bet it's not what they dream about so much as that last though before they drift to sleep. Some warm remembrance of a happy glance, or the fleeting hope that whoever they are thinking of might be thinking of them too.
Btw, Melissa, LisB and I are chatting in the http://www.lingr.com/room/TPM-aholics room. We'd love for you to drop by. (Everyone else is welcome, too.)

Ummm, secret smile...I'm just happy. It's good to be home. Just found out that we get to take the oldest granddaughter with us to San Diego for Thanksgiving, so we're taking her to Sea World and Legoland and I think I'm more excited than she is. I tripped on an uneven sidewalk, fell and peed my pants and laughed until I had tears running down my face. When I told the story to my daughter and granddaughter, the little one laughed herself silly and said, gawgie, gwone ups don't pee theiwr pants and you'we a gwone up! Been one of those days, lots to smile about!

Gosh, still, you really are one of a kind. I had a giggle-for-no-reason day yesterday, it was grand. Unusually cold for the beach in November ... yesterday, a big black cloud passed by and snowed on us for about five minutes before the sun reappeared. It was as magical as it was unexpected. Have a wonderful time!

Snow on the beach...how very cool! Glad you got to experience it...

Hey there -- so good to see the light on and friends assembled.
I'm smiling tonight for two reasons: the first term is finally over (or will be Friday, which is at least in sight); and... my son is coming for Thanksgiving, making a point to bring his girlfriend in a very formalized sort of way... so -- maybe, just maybe he's finally thinking about getting married. I do hope so because I think they're good with and for each other. And, because they've both had other serious relationships, if they are ready to make a commitment, we might hope that it will last for the duration.
So here's to young love, or love at any age, and to family and friends -- oh, if I'm toasting, on a cold night like this one, may I have a hot chocolate to do it with?

You may have whatever you wish. Topping? Marshmallows or whipped cream?
You've so much reason to smile and deserve every bit. Down-time from school issues and your son as well. It's sounds as though you've a wonderful holiday on the horizon, with the possibility of wedding bells in the air. Love. Friends and family. So much for which to give thanks - and this particular November Thanksgiving? Perhaps more special and worth celebration than so many that have come before.

I always have a secret smile, lately. I can't believe I'm still up and wide awake, it's late here. Can't sleep, for some reason.
I brought some beer so I'll just help myself.
*hugs Melissa*

Hey, LisB -- we've noticed that secret smile and enquiring minds want to know what it's about.
Melissa -- I remember the last time it snowed in Charleston, and the palm trees were covered, and it was such a treat that everyone was out and about to maximize the experience. Glad you had that yesterday.

Right back at ya, Lis. Did you get a glass or do you not need one? I'm an elitist, myself. Always prefer a beer in a glass unless I'm on a picnic. Now that I think about it ... maybe I'm just weird.

Hey Still -- nothing like hot chocolate, sometimes. How about you Matt? OG? Paige? Cheers to you all.

cheers, indeed! i've had my quota of sugar for the day, but a nice warm cup of herbal tea would hit the spot.

It's yours. I'll leave the tea bag in so you can choose the strength.

Now tea is something I can offer by the cartload. I get it from the Chinese, Korean and Japanese students -- who have a habit of dropping it by, in gift bags, just before grades are due. I tease them about that, and then we laugh about it.
I'll bring some next time.
