JUST FOR A DAY

(Posted with apologies to those who create and post their wonderful, true poetry.)

               JUST FOR A DAY

Seeking the sun behind the clouds is a worthy endeavor

to achieve, just for the day, a shimmer of light - a sense of warmth

Is this not the best adventure?

If we discard the worst and strive for the best

not just for us, but others too

For just a day, is this not the most glorious quest?

If we strive only to reject

those and that which are not of our choice or ideal

How, just for a day, will our goals ever be met?

To, just for the day, not to scorn or malign

or ignore, discard or condemn

But instead bestow regard for both yours and mine

This is not a hopeless wish or silly aim

but one that we can both enjoy

If only, just for a day, our wish is the same

And when the day passes

the choice will be ours to continue this quest,

Or opt to be asses!

No degrading them asses.

=D

Fine thought, Ma'am. Thank you, this is truly a spot of sunlight in a very gloomy day indeed!

You rawk!

No apologies needed - particularly when it brings light and thoughtfulness to a world badly in need of both.

It is sunny here again, a full week of it. Amazing. Wonderful poetry for a sunny Saturday.

Do something for others.

this is a wonderful and true poem aunt sam and I love it. Just if everybody would read it and try to do what it says. Thank you for making my day a little bit better,

Well, you know, Aunt Sam, some days it's easier to be a nice person than other days no matter what the sun is doing behind clouds and stuff. Like earlier today after I read Boyd Reed's heartwarming blog about the little girl and her pa and how it's okay to butt in sometimes. I felt all nice and warm inside until Middle Class Bill came along with his ka-ka yada-yada. I wanted to call him an asshole. I really did, Aunt Sam. BUT, I didn't do it. No, I refrained. "I'm going to be nice," I said to myself, "I'm not gonna call Middle Class Bill an asshole nor any of the other names in my repertoire."

So, you see, it wasn't that easy for me to hold back about calling old Bill an asshole....but, I did it. I took your poem to heart and just for today, I'm going to be nice.

Now, I realize it sounds like I may have opted to be one of the asses and I reckon I am going to have to live with that. But, I was very upset when Boyd Reed said he was done blogging here. It just doesn't seem right somehow.

Flower,

Okay - truth is that the comments in Boyd's post is why I posted today. I wrote part of it a few days ago after confronting so many of these type of comments/posts.

When I read Boyd (before referenced commments) it was so moving that I actually got teary. Then this a.m. when I saw WCB's (and others supporting/excusing) comments I had two choices - to do as you too were so inclined or to post the blog. (And trust me, I so wanted a shot.....)

But truth is that WBC's reaction was so irrational and bizarre that I recognized any response would either feed the crazed beast or cause more negativity on Boyd's thread. (I've learned that rational discourse can never be achieved with those who are mired in a negative personal agenda/mindset.)

Anyway, Flower - thanks for this and please know how very much I appreciate you and your contributions here.

Thank you both.

For one day - or more....

I made the decision to keep out of that one, too, Aunt Sam, but it bothered me. It's bad enough when someone gets personal -- and personally pejorative -- over a political opinion that has been expressed. But to do so when Boyd's attempt was only to share the kind of moment that gives meaning to our lives ...well...why???
So thank you for this poem, Aunt Sam, which gently urges us to be our better selves --a goal I too often fail to achieve. And thank you the positive presence you are here, as I know you are in that other real/surreal world.
I've been thinking we ought to write a blog, together, with a few of the other "older" women on TPM, that would be a transcript of a real discussion among us on any topic. Interested? Or are you content in anonymity, and prefer to keep it that way?

Count me in..

Sam, I've been mulling over trying my hand at a bit of poetry, but I'm skeert! You may have inspired me to go ahead and try!

Thank you, it was lovely.

Hey there Stilli - thanks for kind words.

You write so well and with your heart that I can only believe your poetry would be terrific.

So many different types of 'poetry'. Styles and topics vary - but it is a form of reaching out, sending a message - just as writing a blog or commenting.

Heart and hand as one is how I feel about poems. Your heart sends the words to your hand to write them down and share (or not).

Will be lookin' forward to reading your poetry soon!

Wendy! I have missed you so....

We seem to never be here at same time or able to catch up with each other for longest time.

Of course I am interested. Does Stilli have your email, 'cuz she has mine (we managed to exchange privately). Let me know as I would so like to email you and we can 'chat' more about your great idea!

Hope all is well. Thanks for stoppin' by..

If you read my reply to Flower.. then you know my feelings and mantra 'Just for the day'
