The Daddy-O knows ALL
I mean, seriously...I've been saying this ever since Obama's numbers started to drop, about three weeks ago or so.
It doesn't take a genius to understand that the folks that will say they disapprove of the job Obama's doing that are on the right, that are Republicans, has no room for growth. They ALL hate him. We get plenty of evidence of that every single day and night from FOX News. So the only way Obama's numbers were EVER going to drop was if he disappointed his base.
I'm not satisfied with the job Obama is doing. Far too many issues of even greater importance than just health care or the economy are going down the wrong path. So in all conscience, I can't say I approve of the job he's doing as President--for a POLL.
But don't forget: No matter what a poll says, no matter what the question is or how it's answered, how skewed, how they play with it, Obama will be re-elected as our next President.
Who do the Republicans have to offer...? Not a goddamned fucking thing except the lies they just keep right on believing. And none of their candidates will be nominated unless they preach those lies loud and clear for at least 18 months ahead of the election.
No more Republican Presidents for a long, long time. And this poll is the most illuminating bit of information I've heard all summer long...

Your post represents the kind of cheerleading in avoidance of reality that I find depressing. I'm sure you mean well, but it does no good to maintain the teenage illusion of invincibility that plagues partisans of every persuasion.

Who will the GOP nominate in 2012 who has even half a chance to beat Obama?
Nobody. Why? For the reasons I just elicited that you may not have read or understood.
In order for a GOP candidate to be nominated today--and presumably from now on until their Party actually changes--that candidate has to be rabidly neoconservative, and batshit crazy. They have to say things they will come to regret when they finally face off with Obama. And he'll beat them handily, even if Obama loses on health care just like Hillary.
Then again, THAT'S not gonna happen, either; Obama will give us 'reform', if not the public option, and he won't give us single payer at this point. This country is ripe for many progressive issues to finally become reality: Gay equality, universal health care in one form or another, civil rights renewals, etc. A lot fewer Democrats will fail to show up to vote for Obama than you think--and a lot more will show up for a second term.
I actually have evidence to produce (the entire campaign of 2007-8, for starters, and Sarah Palin's subsequent career). I'm not a Pollyanna. These are real facts I speak of...not cheerleading. It is, as a matter of fact, a pretty damned bleak picture I paint, considering the fact that nearly 30% of Americans are simply out of their minds and probably should be in straitjackets...

Can't tell your comment from good, old-fashioned snark, Ripper, but I'm sure SOMEONE is laughing at it...
By the way, I've just been proved fucking right:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2005-05-10-ridge-alerts_x.htm?POE=NEWISVA
That's the 2005 story that I remembered. Ridge strongly hinted that the color codes were politically manipulated. He was saving his bona fide affadavit of such for his book, naturally.
Who would buy the cow if he gave away the milk for free?

I'm not laughing. Ripper's right.

For crissakes...it was a joke. The whole 'Daddy-O knows ALL' is just a joke.
You either didn't find it funny, or didn't get it, I would assume.

We must never let up. The stakes are too high. We know how close Bush brought us to disaster, and the American people have such a short memory and such enormous impatience, they will turn away. It can be lost if the voters do not show up. Obama won because he got people to show up and the GOP did not. Too many stayed home. It can happen to us. The one consolation is that there are many who have abandoned the party to explore Libertarian or other pseudo-patriotic, self-absorbed freedom peddling organizations that failt orecognize it's working together that accomplished great things, and it's done with a government people trust. Obama can lose their trust and there is a lot of noise suggesting people are.

When wimpy Democrats cave into being Lite-Republicans, their poll numbers go down. People have contempt for the spineless (ie, Democrats).
Obama is very vulnerable to a serious tide of anger. Not just townhall nutz, but real, thinking American anger. (Wait til Michael Moore's "Capitalism; A Love Story" comes out...)

If there was a way to title comments I'd title mine "Why Obama can't win" I'd be talking not about elections but about why he will never be able to satisfy those who claim to be his base. Here's my example... we always use those when we can.
The first emphasis is Daddy-O's. The second, choppy one is mine. Daddy-O says that things more important than health care are going down the wrong path. Suppose Obama had an epiphany moment and agreed with him. He goes on national television and addresses the people:
What would those for whom health care is the fundamental issue do upon hearing that broadcast?
I know what I would do, I'd bolt the base because I think abolishing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is the single most important issue facing the country today.
p.s. I really don't, honest.

The most important issue facing the nation today is allowing Bush and his henchmen to go free, not even worrying about an investigation of their vast crimes that have cost us so much money, lives, reputation and destruction.
The second most important issue facing the nation today is the continuation of Bush's illegal and unconstitutional spying and terror-fighting policies. Obama's national security team, if they are continuing ANY of the illegal policies Bush put into place, are just as guilty as Bush is.
The third most important issue facing the nation today is health care. The fourth is the economy.
My priorities are based on some pretty simple concepts: 1) The rule of law and 2) How many people will die or be incarcerated unjustly because of the policies in question. So why do the criminal investigations and spy issues outrank health care and the economy, you may ask?
Simple...I'm counting more than just AMERICAN lives, AMERICAN'S money, etc. Illegal acts by a President lead to illegal invasions, illegal wars, etc. More money is spent on them, and by definition, more people die in them, especially BROWN people. By the millions. Not to mention the several million Iraqi emigrants...and the money THAT cost...
