The Daddy-O knows ALL

I mean, seriously...I've been saying this ever since Obama's numbers started to drop, about three weeks ago or so.

It doesn't take a genius to understand that the folks that will say they disapprove of the job Obama's doing that are on the right, that are Republicans, has no room for growth. They ALL hate him. We get plenty of evidence of that every single day and night from FOX News. So the only way Obama's numbers were EVER going to drop was if he disappointed his base.

I'm not satisfied with the job Obama is doing. Far too many issues of even greater importance than just health care or the economy are going down the wrong path. So in all conscience, I can't say I approve of the job he's doing as President--for a POLL.

But don't forget: No matter what a poll says, no matter what the question is or how it's answered, how skewed, how they play with it, Obama will be re-elected as our next President.

Who do the Republicans have to offer...? Not a goddamned fucking thing except the lies they just keep right on believing. And none of their candidates will be nominated unless they preach those lies loud and clear for at least 18 months ahead of the election.

No more Republican Presidents for a long, long time. And this poll is the most illuminating bit of information I've heard all summer long...

Obama depressed

Joe Klein laments our present political situation

From Josh's latest post:

"How can you sustain a democracy if one of the two major political parties has been overrun by nihilists? And another question: How can you maintain the illusion of journalistic impartiality when one of the political parties has jumped the shark?"

Indeed! Very good questions, both. But because they are being asked by none other than one of the very Villagers who is responsible for this nihilism, they beg OTHER questions, such as:

How can you maintain the illusion of journalistic integrity when you actively pimped for the illegal Iraq Invasion at the time, Joe Klein? How can you ever get that integrity back, after years of denying your role in pushing the Bush agenda?

Answer: You can't. You'll never get the genie back in the bottle, Joe. Too bad. You're just another casualty of Bush's World.

On the other hand, how much good does integrity do you, when your bank account is SO happy, Joe? You'll retire rich, which was the plan from the very start. Integrity, schm-integrity, just as long as the checks clear from all those cable news appearances...

Only a real chickenshit would show up at an Obama rally armed to the teeth

You're (presumably, but maybe I've been wrong all my life) surrounded by Secret Service. All watching constantly for any sign of potential violence, either upon the POTUS or in waiting for his appearance. The best armed guards in the world, or so I've been told.

Why would anyone feel the need to protect themselves? Only if they're so completely afraid for their lives would they demand their 'rights' to self-protection.

Pathetic.

I thought of it first, but of course James Wolcott wrote it DOWN first

All this Hitler = Obama horseshit we are now being exposed to had to have its roots someplace.

Wouldn't you know it would have to be Little Jonah Goldberg? How I remember with bated breath the conservative AND liberal blogosphere waited for Jonah's massive tome. The smile-face with the Hitler mustache graphic was leaked ahead of time, along with the title; comments sections filled with derision as speculation ran wild over just what the fuck Jonah was talking about. We all recognized how ridiculous the main theme was then, and it did not disappoint.

But I think Jonah and the deathers have opened a can of worms they'll soon wish they hadn't. Has this crowd ever attempted anything close to constructive activity? Or is it all nihilistic seething anger and its consequences? Bet smart, now.

Intimidating brown and black people is a long-standing tradition in Arizona

To add to what Josh posted here:

"I remember during the 2006 election there were people in Tucson hanging out at polling places in hispanic communities carrying visible sidearms and asking voters about their immigration status. Make no mistake, this isn't about "gun culture" or being comfortable with firearms. This is about intimidation - visibly carrying a firearm - especially one designed specifically for killing human beings is a not-at-all veiled threat, and is meant to silence opposition."

This reminds me of nothing so much as the story of the dearly departed SCOTUS Chief Justice William Rehnquist, appointed by Richard Nixon and lifted to the Chief Justice chair by St. Ronald Reagan.

Let me refresh your memory:

"[Rehnquist] served as clerk to Justice Robert H. Jackson in 1952 and 1953, and it was in that capacity that he wrote a memorandum to help the justice prepare for the Court's discussion of the constitutional challenge to officially segregated schools. Rehnquist's memorandum argued in favor of upholding the separate but equal doctrine of Plessy v. Ferguson (1896).

"After completing his clerkship with Jackson, he moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where for sixteen years he practiced law and participated in a variety of local political activities. During those years he appeared as a witness before the Phoenix City Council in opposition to a public accommodations ordinance and took part in a program of challenging voters at the polls."

'Political activities' is putting it much too kindly. He showed up at polling places in Phoenix on Election Day, most interestingly in November of 1964, where he would hold up signs denouncing civil rights for blacks and threatening them with all kinds of consequences if they dared to exercise their right to vote there. He did his best to keep Arizona a Red State, right on the front lines.

Fuck him. And fuck anyone else carrying on this unconstitutional and thoroughly illegal practice. Your time is now up, Birchers. Thank you for playing.

I most certainly hope not

"I will never vote for a bill to kill old people, period."
