Oh, my God...Sam Butera dies at 81

I was wondering who the third would be...

Koko Taylor, David Carradine...wow. I'm so sad.

Next Time...?
There'll be no Next Time
That was the last time for me!

Rest in peace, Sam, baby. Say 'hi' to Louis when you see him. He's been waiting...

You two were a couple of the original hipsters of all time...

Your really mean Sam Butera, and not Sal Butera. You can re-edit this post in "Blog Now!" to reflect this.

I grew up in Las Vegas, and my parents were big fans of Louis Prima. For my tenth birthday, I got to stay up late, and watch a Louie Prima lounge show from backstage, then meet them all after the show. Yeah Sam Butera was cool.

Here's a couple of Vids of Sam Butera playing with Louie Prima:

Thank you PCA, Sal used to be one of OUR catchers with the Twins.

I was moved by David Carradine. If no one else does, I will do a blog on grasshopper.

An amazing Hollywood family. David represented something to me...something new when I was younger.

Those videos and that story completely fuckin' rock, Psy-Ants. Thanks a million for sharing them both!

I'm not sure how I made that mistake...I sure as hell know it's Sam. I can hear Louis right now in my head, in "Just A Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody", encouraging him with a hearty "Ay, Sammy-boy!"

Ah, well.

You're welcome. Here's another video you'll probably enjoy.

When I was growing up, and had taken enough piano lessons that my parents allowed me to choose my own instrument, somewhat to their consternation, I chose percussion. They still located a competent teacher through the Vegas Musician's Union though. To me, Joe Morello was the cat who was just too cool. Here's Brubeck, Desmond, Wright and Morello, helping to win the Cold War by Taking the A Train.
