BRING THE TROOPS HOME NOW!

From both Afghanistan AND Iraq.

Remember: You heard it here first. Nobody else, even on this 'progressive' blog, is calling to bring home the troops. No one.

I am. End this crazy-making. End this trillion-dollar adventure. End this killing, this endless mayhem, this insanity that was begun by an insane person. The sooner, the better.

End it, or embrace it, Obama. You're the Decider now.

I like that you've taken a stand on this. All troops out of the middle east now. Could you play this out a little more? What happens as a result?

tpmgary: OK, so I'm worried about loose nukes, but if we're staying over there, I say let's install a draft. That's the only way the oligarchy will unf#ck their stubborn diplomacy issues. If Ken Lewis & John Thain's kids have to serve in the military, there might actually be some actually headway on peace agreements.

I don't really care what happens as a result. I remember hearing that question quite a bit before that last helicopter took off from Saigon. And now, the only people who still obsess that we gave up on the Vietnamese are the neocons who talked America into the Iraq Invasion.

What will happen is whatever will happen. What has been predicted from the start, which has already been begun, and, in my opinion, never should have been begun. Iraq will cease to exist, and will more than likely separate into three nations--unless another strongman appears. This will have its own set of consequences, good and bad. Iran's influence tripled as soon as Saddam was deposed.

I don't care what will happen because whatever happens, it won't cause a single American life, no matter how hard the neocons try to scare it up. Military intervention is not the answer, no more now than in 2003. American 'interests' are not our military's responsibility, either. Only as a last resort should any ruler put his/her troops in the field. It was true when Sun Tzu wrote it, and it's still true today.

my intention was to probe a little about what would happen in America as a result, not in the Middle East. All the good things. Like having a government that focuses more on the health and well being of its own citizens.

You're not the only one!

I am! I have been! And I will keep on calling for an end to both wars.

And tpmgary, the "result" of bringing the troops home is the same one as when we got the hell out Viet Nam: the places we are intruding upon can begin healing and recovering from the brutality we have inflicted there and from all the dislocation, destruction and death that our presence has been responsible for. They want us out. We need to get out.

We have enough for a bridge table! Add me to the list.
