Afghanistan, Obama's war...are we STILL there?

I thought I made myself clear. Get the fuck out of Afghanistan. Now. Today. Forget it. Let it go.

I'm so old, I remember when unpopular wars were ended by popular demand I'm thisclose to predicting that Obama will not be re-elected if he does not withdraw us from the two Bush Wars. #1 Reason: Trillions of dollars. Trillions and trillions of dollars.

Much more than it will ever be worth.

If people are going to insist on staying in Afghanistan and Iraq to 'get the job done', and NOT sign up, it won't work. Anyone who thinks otherwise is not thinking straight.

If you want to really win the 'War on Terror' with military might, you're gonna need a bigger army. A draft. A Marshall Plan. And one more thing: Moral authority.

Ask those D-Day vets if you can win without it.

I'm so old...I remember when NYC being the safest city in the US would be a bad Johnny Carson joke

But today, it's no joke.

Cue the neocons and Fox News bots to let us all know this is entirely 9iu11iani's credit.

In which I experiment with this blog and see how long of a title it will allow me to write, even if I run out of things to say in the title itself, but nevertheless am still curious as to when it's going to stop me from typing on and on and it's still not

Nice.

Oh, my God...Sam Butera dies at 81

I was wondering who the third would be...

Koko Taylor, David Carradine...wow. I'm so sad.

Next Time...?
There'll be no Next Time
That was the last time for me!

Rest in peace, Sam, baby. Say 'hi' to Louis when you see him. He's been waiting...

You two were a couple of the original hipsters of all time...

"And it is my first duty as President to protect the American people."

Not true, Cuz.

George W. Bush used this phrase a lot, too. Got plenty of mileage out of it. Might even end up facing a jury or even prison because of it.

No, President Obama, your FIRST duty is NOT to protect the American people. Your first duty is the one you swore on January 20, 2009--to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.

Are we dirty fucking hippies the only ones who understand this very simple concept?

One of my favorite nicknames for George W. Bush: Weak 'n' stupid

I first read it, and then I read it over and over again, at bartcop. I am reminded of this nickname today. Why?

Well...it would appear that President Obama is pretty darned intent upon pressuring Israel to bend and actually make progress towards a two-state solution. One of the very few facts about the Bush Presidency that I approved of was this: Bush was the first President since the creation of Israel to say publicly that his policy was the incarnation of a two-state end game. No other President had the political credibility to escape the flak from Zionists, or perhaps no other President had the political courage to cross that line and potentially anger them.

But a public statement is a fur piece from action, and Bush's stated two-state goal at the end of the day. As a matter of fact, this proves that Bush may have wanted peace for Israel and Palestine, but he dropped the ball and failed, probably due to a lack of enthusiasm, and distraction by way of the Iraq Invasion.

So in comparison with what Bush accomplished--practically nothing--President Obama's choices, words, and actual arm-twisting of the most right-wing leader of Israel makes Bush look positively weak, and stupid. Bush was led around by the nose by Ariel Sharon. Sharon's actions spoke volumes against Bush's words. Sharon acted as if he could not care less what Bush wanted in Israeli-Palestinian policy, much less a two-state solution. I am convinced that, back when Sharon had a functioning brain, he considered Bush very much to be weak and stupid.

But now we have a President who's not taking any guff from anyone--Iran, Saudi Arabia, Israel, et al. At least, his words and actions so far, anyway...
