Din't I? Yeah, I certainly did.

I'll believe it when I see it

Agreement Sets Stage For Rove Testimony On US Attorney Firings

Who among us will be surprised in the very least to hear on the morning news that Karl Rove and Harriet Miers did NOT appear before the Judiciary Committee, as scheduled?

Shocked, SHOCKED, I say.

Speaking with children

Little children. Immature, unsophisticated, and proud of it.

For your information, Little Children, the 'Democrat Party' does not exist. It's called the Democratic Party, and every time you descend into juvenile name-calling on the floor of Congress and elsewhere, it's like rubber and glue--

--it bounces right off US and lands right on YOU. To borrow a phrase you MIGHT understand, Little Children...

Taxpayer

I'm so old...

I'm so old...I remember when calling yourself a 'taxpayer' was a solid conservative line. "Honest, hardworking taxpayers" were the base of America--not John Birch Society nutballs, not pinko beatniks, not college elite professors, et al. It was a signal flag that someone was down to earth, probably voted Republican or for a 'moderate' Democrat, and was truly the middle of the road in this country.

How times change.

Nowadays, if you use the word 'taxes', it's poison. Taxes are bad. Taxes steal my money. Taxes are the problem, and never the solution.

Doesn't that sound rather...seditious? Radical? As if whoever uses the word 'taxes' in that context is OUT of the mainstream?

We had to wait a while for this meme to fade, but it is starting. The thaw into rational thought is back. Taxes are something to avoid, but not evade. Taxes pay for stuff we want, like, need and even can't live without. Anyone who thinks or says otherwise is either insane, or deluded.

I don't care about pollution
I'm an air-conditioned Gypsy
That's my solution
Watch the police and the taxman miss me!
I'm Mobile!

--"Going Mobile, The Who, Who's Next, 1971

I'm so old...I remember when it was the hippies who told us all to stop paying taxes. I remember when Republicans were proud to claim they paid their taxes. I remember when the real radicals wanted to upend the entire system.

Come to think of it...nothing's really changed, now, has it?
