Hate.
The Republicans are back to their greatest weapon.
Hate.
Even Sarah Palin, after telling the minimal story of her own public life, quickly jumped back to hate. She attacked Obama with the lies and half-truths that are being painted as fact by the McCain campaign, tax increases chiefly among them.
If, as Fred Thompson says, this woman knows how to field dress a moose, then I suggest she split her time between governor of a sparsely publicized state and field-dressing mooses. She may even want to jump on one of her husband's boats.
What she definitely should not do --- and what Americans should turn her away from --- is the job of vice president of the United States. Mayor of a town of less than 7,000 people for six years. Governor of Alaska, sparsely populated, but with its own nationwide reverence, for 20 months. Mother of an unwed expectant mother (as No. 2 in the party of family values). Environmental rapist of one of the most sensitive environmental areas in the world.
And, out of convenience and in the interest of offsetting a growing swell of negative publicity, a liar.
Obama equals bigger government and higher taxes? Show me!
Bridge to nowhere? She supported it before she was against it. In Republican parlance, I believe they call that a flip-flop.
Daughter pregnant out of wedlock? Family values? How do those mix, pray tell?
Troopergate continues.
Sarah Palin is a disingenuous enigma wrapped in base conservatism and without any meaningul experience.
But should the Obama campaign try to attack even her asinine opinions on polar bears and the ANWr, we're likely to hear cries of sexism from the McCain camp.
At the end of the day, she's as mean as any Republican. And just as fucking wrong.

What is up with the media and John McCain?
I mean, seriously?
I’m pretty damned sick of hearing about Barack Obama’s
flip-flops while, at the same time, McCain’s behaving like a live fish that
just hit the bottom of the boat. Moreover, McCain’s elasticity with regard to
the issues makes no sense. Just check out his economic plan. First off, he’s
gonna keep the Bush tax cuts and balance the budget. How? Well, he’s gonna do
it with borrowed money that is saved from victory in Iraq.
*** (shakes head rapidly)***
What the fuck?
Meanwhile, back in the real world, a pretty serious vote
took place in the Senate today. Yes, I’m talking about the FISA vote. Barack
Obama voted for three amendments aimed at mitigating objectionable portions of
the bill --- particularly telecom immunity. Those amendments failed and Obama
cast his vote for the bill anyway because, at the end of the day, oversight of
such goings-on as were engaged in by the Bush administration 30 times is, as a
result of the admittedly faulty bill’s passage, increased.
So.
What does John McCain do? Same song, 72nd verse.
He calls Obama on a “flip-flop.”
Whether you believe Obama flipped, flopped or refined his
position on FISA, one thing is certain. John McCain DID NOT SHOW UP TO VOTE
ON THE BILL!!! So where does this pale,
geriatric and, frankly, ignorant Republican asshole get off criticizing Obama?
The same guy that hasn’t done one minute of campaigning on the weekend (I
suppose that’s his time) doesn’t even care enough about the vote to show up and
he’s climbing on his soapbox slinging barbs at Obama?
Many of you here at TPM are royally pissed at Obama for his
actions on the FISA bill. I understand. I’m not necessarily right there with
you, but I do understand. Still, I think most of you know that it’s
nonproductive to vote for anyone other than Sen. Obama or to stay home. Because,
whether you like it or not, here’s where we are:
Either Barack Obama or John McCain will be president of the
United States in January of next year.
You could roll the dice and vote for Nader or Barr or stay
home.
And Obama could lose.
And, for four more years, your life --- my life, hell,
our lives --- could
suck.
Don’t be fucking idiots.
Don’t put our nation in the hands of someone who proved
today that he JUST DOESN’T CARE!

It’s been another one of those days on the campaign trail.
Accusations of flip-flopping. FISA fanaticism. The Obama
girls go teevee tabloid. Ads that charge and countercharge.
This just in: John McCain is old and Barack Obama is black.
Film at 11.
**Sigh.***
No thanks.
I’d rather sneak off to some corner of the room and
contemplate the contours of the wall for a while. Charge up for tomorrow’s
action, sure to include some nuanced version of today’s.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m as much of a political junkie as
anyone here. That’s why I’m here. But when the evening gets warped with time and
alcohol, then it’s time to contemplate the contours. To listen to a few tunes
and float off into a world where there are no politics and every day is a Bobby
McFerrin ditty. Where the wind blows Dylan and, sometimes, cries Mary. Where
the air that I breathe is all that I need --- and it smells like teen spirit.
So, bring your reflections on the day, your reflections on
life, your tunes, your beverages, your herbal concoctions, and join me and Lou

After a long day of John McCain, Wesley Clark, charges and
countercharges, it’s late.
And it’s time to mellow out and relax a bit.
I invite you to come on in, share a vid or a thought ---
and, yes, it can even be about the issues of the day, but don’t expect excess
heaviness --- and relax.
I don’t know about you guys, but, after a hard day of
watching the “squiggles” ($1 to Malcolm P. Johnson), I just need to take some
time to lay back, listen to some tunes, maybe enjoy a favorite beverage (I’m
currently savoring a Maker’s and water) and bullshit about whatever comes to
mind.
It’s about whimsy, riffing and winding down.
Hope to see you here soon.

This would be funny if it weren’t so damned infuriating.
Just so George W. Bush could have a nice little hobby after
he’d failed miserably in the oil business, George H.W. Bush, who was friends
with former Major League Baseball Commissioner Peter Ueberoth, helped him
purchase the Texas Rangers. Our current president owned the Rangers from 1989
until 1998, when he sold the club to Thomas O. Hicks for $250 million.
Now, anyone who knows anything about baseball knows that,
much like anything, there are fundamentals that must be mastered to be
successful in the game. Fundamental numero uno in baseball, be it in the field
or at the plate is, to
keep your eye on the ball.
This particular fundamental, as the link proves, is
applicable to other endeavors in life.
George W. Bush took his eye off the ball.
More than 4,000 young Americans have paid the ultimate price
because of Bush’s ignorance of the fundamentals.
We have lost much respect because he did not keep his eye on
the ball.

It’s 2016.
The two-term
presidency of Barack Obama is coming to an end.
What are true
progressives to do?
Want to really
drive the Repubs batshit crazy?
How about a Russ
Feingold/Bob Wexler ticket? Heavily Jewish, but, hopefully, by this time some
of the problems in the Middle East will have been ironed out. And, if we want
progressives, what two persons in our national legislature better fit the bill?
Plus, after
eight years of Feingold, we can run Wexler in 2024.
Never hurts to
have a plan!
