Happy 8th Anniversary TPM! Thanks to Josh Marshall and Crew

I can't remember when I first started coming to Talking Points Memo, but it was a few years ago. It has only been more recent that I started blogging here, and it has been a great experience. For me, TPM is my home on the tubes. Thanks to Josh and the TPM staff for creating this place where we can come together and debate, discuss, and dissect the issues of the day. Anyone else care to join me in making this a big "Thank You" thread?

Yes, congrats on continuing good work and a growing business.

TPM is my go-to-first news source. Thank you!

user-pic

Most definitely!

Thank you, and keep up the good work! The growing pains have been, well, painful, for all of us, but we appreciate all the hard work that goes into an endeavor like this!

I have to confess that during the worst of it I explored other options, but there is no place like TPM. Being a part of it, I feel a tremendous amount of pride when I hear TPM or Josh quoted in the msm!

Congrats!

Happy birthday, TPM, and thanks to Josh, Greg, and crew for keeping one of the very best places on the Innerwebs going strong.

user-pic

Congratulations!! What are you going to do with yourself when a Democrat get back into the White House?

user-pic

I can't imagine the internet without TPM. Congratulations on your anniversary.

user-pic

TPM: Best. Political. Blog. Ever! I learned about TPM from the great Bill Moyers, when Josh was a guest on "The Journal".

I truly want to congratulate EVERYONE on the staff whose contributions have helped in my understanding -- and certainly your contributions during this historic election season.

Rock On, TPM! You're a national treasure.

user-pic

Huge thanks to Josh and the entire staff! What a year it's been. I can't imagine how it would have been without TPM.

ditto

user-pic

Double ditto.

Congratulations and many many more years of success. I depend on you to present the news that matters to me, field my comments and show me the way to more information. TPM has redefined how we approach news in the internet age. You are the BEST!

Happy Birthday TPM!

Long may you reign!

user-pic

Josh - I've watched this thing grow and you have built one of the best news sources there is. Congratulations! This is one of the smartest sites on the intertubes, too.

Thanks, guys.

user-pic

Congratulations, TPM! And to all the posters who make this place so special.

user-pic

Happy Birthday TPM, and thanks for the wonderful source you are!

A day without TPM is like a fish without a bicycle, except less scaly and a different flavor. Keep on making the pie higher, oh mighty TPM! Happy Bloggybirthday!

user-pic

Belated thanks for seeing me through The War of the Chads with my sanity (relatively) intact.

And for the Cafe, which played vital role in altering my future in manner beyond belief. ;-)

This has become my favorite news source online. I check in daily. I take special pride in TPS knowing that Josh is my kin. I don't often sign in or comment but a congrats is in order. I love the thoughtful, sophisticated journalism here.

user-pic

Congratulations and the site was very improved by the latest technical fixes.

user-pic

TPM: Thanks for saving Social Security, and my sanity! Commenters: thanks for the laughs and the insights- always a great read. Long may TPM reign.

How about Sinbad and Idiotic do a special anniversary blog?

user-pic

Happy Birthday TPM,

We have the same birthday! Thank god for Barack Obama, J.M. Marshall and crew!

user-pic

Congrats, Josh!

I don't know if Johs rmemebers, but TPM was one of/the first place other than the FL Sec. of State's site for on-point information about the ongoing election battle post 11/4/2000.

And the only one which was interactive and "cutting-edge" in the on-point effort to stay on top of the second-by-second changes going on during that hellish period.

"TPM" was small then -- but has grown appreciably since. And amid all that Josh has gifted with a brand-new little one who should be walking by now.

Again, congrats, Josh! And "Many Happy Returns," as the conventional (or Ted Berrigan) would say.

Congrats, Josh and TPM staff!

Just to give you some "outside" perspective, I live in France and learned about TPM through the blog of a french journalist from Libération. Must have been around 2002. During this election, I was surprised at how frequently Josh's name was mentioned in big French newspapers. They also link to TPM videos from time to time.

TPM is definitely one of my 2 or 3 favorite websites. I love the patience and the attention to details that transpires in almost every blog entry. I also love the unspectacular approach : it's always fun to watch you quietly collect information about a not-very-interesting story, until somehow, in the process, it turns into a huge story.

Can I bitch a little, too? Like other readers, I sometimes regret that TPM is turning more and more into an anti-GOP attack machine. Especially during this election, I thought there were quite a few misleading headlines (I'm thinking of some stories about McCain or Palin where the actual content of the article was less damaging than the headline suggested). Arguably, it was much more important to get Obama elected than to offer nuanced commentary. But since the election's over and the good guy won, maybe you can get back to a less partisan approach? Just my two cents anyway :)

Huge Congratulations to Josh et al!

I think I began reading tpm right after the Bush/Gore debacle after I lost all faith in the American media. It was a hidden little gem with a wealth of progressive information that proved to me that integrity and real journalism came above all else.

I was in college at the time and have since bounced around in different careers and lifestyles with TPM always an important part in the background. It has been a rock and a daily ritual for me, more important than coffee, breakfast, shaving before work, getting the last bit of paperwork done at work, gassing up the car, etc.

Although I continue to read some mainstream publications like the Times and the Atlantic, TPM is one of if not the most important source of news in U.S. national news for me. I now find myself living and working in Spain, where it is now more important than ever.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart Josh and the TPM crew for all the work you have done and for always trying your hardest to maintain the highest standard of excellence, while still keeping that sense of humility that has allowed you to cover the biggest and the smallest stories with equal vigor. And an extra thank you for the HILARIOUS tidbits that you have laced the news with and which have kept me smiling and laughing through all these years even as I watched the country seriously falter (especially the recent addition of the DUKE AWARDS!).

I would also like to thank all of the brilliant bloggers and commentators who have helped to shape the dialog and conversation here. I am floored by the thoughtfulness and wisdom you have displayed and you have showed me that when truly intellectually curious people come to debate, they can look within themselves to honestly reshape their ideas around evidence and outside perspective. And also thank you for your inspiring personal stories and accounts that have brought tears to my eyes on more than one occasion (yikes! sometimes at work!).

So congratulations to all TPMers old and new, and let us look forward to another outstanding 8 years!

Thank you, TPM, for saving me from a life of crime. Because this is one of the greatest media outlets in the world, I have been able to overcome the urge to destroy television broadcasting installations. Now, I get to use my secret island fortress for good instead of evil.

A friend pointed me at TPM in January of 2001. I've been coming back nearly every day since then. This is a very special place, led by a visionary, Mr. Josh Marshall. Thank you thank you thank you!

user-pic

Thank you one and all. Happy Birthday!

user-pic

Kudos for this and every year I've been addicted!

user-pic

I too dwell in TPM's tire swing.

Simply the best site on US politics. Dogged, innovative, with a "longer view" than most political reporting.

And easily the best consequence of the 2000 Florida Recount.

Thank you all!

user-pic

TPM is such a great source for political news and Josh and company are really a class act.

I've been reading for a very long time, but just starting joining in during the election.

Thank you for the breath of fresh air in an otherwise stiffling 8 years of the Bush Administration. I can always count on TPM for intelligent, unemotional, straight-shooting analysis.

I wish you many more years to come.
