Senior McCain Advisors Sending Out Resumes
One well-connected Republican in the private sector was shocked to get calls and resumes in the past few days from what he said were senior McCain aides - a breach of custom for even the worst-off campaigns.
This is just one of the lines from a searing look at the complete disarray the McCain campaign is currenlty in. Here's a bit more:
"The cake is baked," agreed a former McCain strategist. "We're entering the finger-pointing and positioning-for-history part of the campaign. It's every man for himself now."
A circular firing squad is among the most familiar political rituals of a campaign when things aren't going well. But it is rare for campaign aides to be so openly participating in it well before Election Day.
From the post at Politico.com: Blame game: GOP forms circular firing squad

This is without a doubt the worst run political campaign for US President that I'm aware of. The campaign staff and the candidate have been running around like the Keystone Cops for the last few months, pretending they have a strategy. Now the rats are scurrying ashore. There should be more than a few books written about the McCain campaign by the various wounded parties in an attempt to paint the best portrait of themselves they can. It should make interesting reading.

Agreed. McCain's people are completely incompetent. They make Bob Shrum look like a freakin' genius.

It was like they were striving always to be too clever by half. And I believe that, despite a desire to find someone on the Campaign staff to blame, THAT is a reflection of who McCain is - petty, competitive, small, and insecure. Rather than just find whatever inner strengths he has and marshall those resources as the nucleus of his candidacy, he was constantly distracted by what the other guy was doing and how to best him at it. Meanwhile, Obama's just staying focused, keeping his eye on the prize, staying on message, remaining cool as shit, and most importantly - looking like a Leader. Ultimately, I think this Campaign played out exactly as it was meant to. McCain showed who he is and Obama did the same. On November 4, I'm confident that the people will have chosen the right man to lead this country.
