A day earlier at a debate in St. Cloud with her Democratic opponent, Elwyn Tinklenberg, Bachmann spoke kindly of Obama.

"If the presidency would somehow go to Barack Obama, I would welcome him to the 6th District as well," Bachmann said after the debate. "As a matter of fact, I would put my hand on his shoulder and give him a kiss if he wanted to" - a reference to when Bachmann gained notoriety for grabbing President Bush's shoulder after his 2007 State of the Union address and holding on until he kissed her.

I donated and don't live in the state, I was so outraged. This is not the first time this woman has said things that were truly unbelievable. I hope the voters in her district now realize that they voted in an extreme nut.

Awesome. I wonder what Tinklenberg's reaction is, waking up with his coffers $130k richer. The only prior fund raising number I can find is as of July 18, his total cycle funds were $531,419.96. Even if he's since doubled that, it has to be a great feeling.

I honestly think the right was foolish enough to imagine they could piss off Obama supporters and get them to act out. But instead, just as steady as our guy, we respond affirmatively, doing something positive - instead of something negative.

This is inspiring.
Using the same tactic of national contribution, might we, even now, defeat the more egregious, if ubiquitous, conservative candidates in the deep South? In South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana? Because even though it is unlikely that we can turn any of these states blue, we just might manage to elect Republican Senate and House candidates who are reasonable on at least one or more issues? Which is surely a better outcome than a roster of candidates who will vote ultra-conservative, all the time?
Contributing to a Republican never occurred to me before -- I wrote these states off this year because I knew a Democrat could not win and never considered the "lesser of evils" scenario.

Had no idea this was going on. I just kicked El a few bucks and sent Al Franken some dough while I was at it. First time out of state donation (other than president).
