The Narrative

I woke this morning at 5:02am, and made sure that I'd finished my first cup of joe prior to tuning in to Morning Joe for the reasons why Obama might not win tomorrow. Joe chimed loudly just like a fine German Koocoo clock right at 6:04am with his rave about wanting to make sure he was right in claiming that McCain had a path to victory on Wednesday. But the most surprising remarks of the entire morning for me came from Peggy Noonan. I cannot tell you how many half and two thirds written blogettes that I'd started about her surprising candor and insight on the election throughout the primaries and the general election.

From the first article of hers that I'd read where she compared the old Republican House needing repair while the new freshly built Democratic house shined over it, yada yada, I came to respect her work greatly.  I also felt sorry and embarrassed for her during the hot mike episode where she seemed to be speaking truth in saying that she knows that this year's Republican story on Sarah Pail was simply a "narrative".

Not until reading her regularly this year had I ever understood the mass appeal of Ronald Regan.  Through the fine crafted tools like the 'Good Morning America' speech, and her 'Berlin Wall' speech that she so ingeniously honed for him, I began to recollect on a President that I would have never voted for (if I were of age) with bit of pride. Looking back on those speeches you almost forget the de-regulation and de-unionization of the airline industry (later to bleed over to many other industries), the shrinking of the Federal Government but the massive growth of the use of more expensive civilian and military contractors which actually netted more Government Spending than any other administration only second to the current one, and lets not leave out those famous laissez fair cry "The Government is not the solution it's the problem" as we struggle to pay back this seven hundred billion dollar fiasco at hand today. But pardon me, I digress?

While Ms Noonan has so vivaciously cheered the new democratic dragon slayer from high stands at the Wall Street Journal, and has penned many marvelous tales and fables about his almost mythical heroism, she snuck in her cold endorsement by saying today that she was "voting for McCain".

You see Ms. Noonan, Mr. George Will, Mr. David Brooks and so many of the well informed, that I'd been forced to admire out of there being no alternatives and out of my love for politics since I watched my first episode of "This Week with David Brinkley" back when I was just thirteen, sit in the VIP section at the Georgetown Cocktail Party. They have right and license to peer over the vast political countryside like wise old owls as we believe their narrative of being objective, honest and intellectually stable for the good of the country.

These tenured Professors whose lectures we attend for faithfully in an attempt to validate our own intellectual prowess are by no means objective at all. While Ms. Noonan in particular has lauded Obama for his freshness, his temperament and his potential ability to heal a nation badly bruised, she still can't find it within herself to pull the lever for him. I'm not going racial, I'm not going inexperienced here, I'll use another word so familiar to many of us who have our noses pressed outside the bakers window because we only have six cents in our pockets, I'll use the word "tradition".

Democrats I want to tell you one thing, and that is that the Republicans know how to CLOSE RANKS!

You see we're the erratic and unstable idiots here in this old poker game.  Even as this so called beacon or realism and rationale writes mounds and mounds of pretty words to sell to us, she's still going to do what she knows to do, what is traditional to her, even if it goes against the interests that she writes as her own narrative. Why can Ms Noonan take John McCain and the structure of her party to task, and have the chance to weigh in with such expertise on the direction of this country, while we feel like spineless calamari if we even question the war. Why can their experts gaze into the crystal ball of reflection without having their patriotism questioned. We dems need to stop looking to someone else for our validation and do what the do. CLOSE RANKS!

No one on that side of the aisle will shed a single tear about the brave and valiant warrior who was slain in battle just prior to receiving is knighthood. They'll simply seize the power that they believe is theirs, tell the war stories and begin to make up new ones for the battle in four years.

Make sure that you take an apple, last weekends Wall Street Journal editorial page and a folding chair to the polls tomorrow so you can catch up on your Peggy Noonan. She's good to cut and paste some new allegories, and big adjectives into your posts from!

OBAMA, OBAMA, OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
