I wanted to get this to Josh, for his article on the front page.
Bachmann's a crazy lady.
They are shameless liars: they really believe there is a moral firewall between their private lives and when acting in their political mode.
Never has such a shameless lot persisted so long on the American scene.
This was so far over the line it was eerily uncomfortable to watch.
She's calling for an investigation into which members of congress are anti-American. She thinks she knows one--Barack Obama.
It's a rant that is on permanent record now, all over the internet.
This is hate speech.
As I understand it, she has five biological children, and 23, yes, 23 foster children living at her home.
Hate can be taught.
23 foster children living at her home?
Is that even legal?? There are limitations as to how many foster children can be in one single home...
She is channeling McCarthy. She is just short of calling for a new House Committee on Un-American activities.
exactly. That virus will never leave the body of that party. I call it the spirit of 1947 (when the GOP embraced the dark side) It comes out when they are in extremis or political peril as they are now.
THAT, was some bad shit.
Seriously. That was way way bad.
I can't talk about that stuff. That's just beyond.
Honest to God. That shut me up. These guys have walked past any warning signs, and they're open-field running now. If she'll go on National TV and say that sort of thing, then it's wide open now. These guys could go completely, publicly, batshit now.
Wow.
I was taken aback.
Katrina was visibly shaken after listening to her screed.
I can only hope this backfires on her. I just donated to her opponent on ActBlue. It looks like he has recieved over $44,000 as of 5 minutes ago because her speech.
When Michelle Bachmann was first elected to the Minnesota Legislature, I overheard her speaking to a small group of constituents in the state Capitol rotunda. Here are her exact words---and you could tell she absolutely MEANT EVERY SYLLABLE:
"Jesus Christ sent me to St. Paul to save your children from socialism."
With credentials like that, you can see why the voters sent her to Congress. Fits her district like a glove.
She is easy to laugh at from a distance . . . like Schickelgruber . . . but when you encounter her you realize that she personifies will power and a disciplined determination to get her way. Very much like the descriptions of Sarah Palin.
These Aryan superwomen are quite a phenomenon, and it would be nice to see her get defeated. That district is gerrymandered to favor the fascists, though, so it is a tough assignment.
I do wonder what skeletons are in her closet . . . but so far, they've stayed put.
Uh, I think crazy is the skeleton in this whack-a-do's closet. And how can their be an entire congressional district willing to elect her? TWICE??? The mind reels.
If, as seems possible, MN loses a Congressional seat after the 2010 census, I hope a DFL legislature redistricts her out of a seat.
(This is why downticket races matter...)
I don't understand why everyone is so taken aback.
The Ayers stuff has been on the net and on TV for at least a year now.
What she's said is consistent with what other parts of the media have reported.
Matthew is the one that has put the connection between Reid/Pelosi and anti-American. She didn't say that Reid and Pelosi were anti-American.
Three points hard to dispute:
1) Ayers and his wife were terrorists. They aren't repentant and wished they did more.
2) Obama's relationship w/ Ayers was more than just "a guy in my neighborhood"
3) Personally, even if Ayers did repent, I would not associate myself with him no matter what he's done to redeem himself.
Just imagine what you'd be saying if Palin had an association with Eric Rudolph...
Or worse, if Palin had a relationship with someone that was a secessionist!
Hey Bill, the crazy scary part isn't that Michelle Bachmann is willing to link Obama to Ayers in public. It's been a 24/7 Ayers-o-rama in BizzaroWorld for weeks.
The crazy part is calling for a media investigation into the un-American sentiment among members of Congress. The crazy part is suggesting that anyone who disagrees with you is unAmerican.
For example, I disagree with you pretty much all the time, but I assume you're as American as I am, which is to say a law-abiding citizen who loves their country. Just because I think you're woefully misguided in your political beliefs does not entitle me to launch, or to even suggest, an investigation into your anti-American activities.
It's ludicrous. More than that, it's dangerous. We don't need another McCarthy era.
You got that right, girl! When did it become unAmerican to NOT be a right wing whacko?
Sorry MCB. When first questioned about Ayers in a debate, although, Obama opened his comment with the fact that Ayers does live in his neighborhood, he concluded with the fact that they had sat on a board together.
I'm relatively new here, but omitting the tail end of the disclosure and failing to reference any additional respected sources to sustain the allegation of the increased closeness of their relationship makes your argument just about as credible as Sarah Palin's foreign policy credentials.
I get the sense that this isn't the average Busch Beer/Spam Sandwich crowd here. I think you're going to have to work a bit harder on plausible distortions.
Her opponent has made over $98,000 since ther speech. Sweet.
Crazy - please don't accuse me of incomplete disclosure. Nice try but your response isn't exactly true. The board connection didn't come up until Hillary challenged Obama's initial incomplete answer. Read the transcript and you'll see I'm right on this one.
Wow, I just looked at El's donation page, it looks like when you add up the main one, with the censure Bachmann group, he's raised over $300,000 since she spoke.
