Dear Joe

Sir You are an Ass. Your petulant display of ill-informed disrespect defines your character. "You lie", you shouted at the current President. I think you may have been a little late - you would probably have been more accurate had you offered this outburst to the previous President, or Previous Vice-President for that matter. Goodness knows what the American People will think of you now, fortunately being English I feel marginally less embarassed that your buffoonery erupted on the International stage, and served as a magnificent example of Party - in - denial/freefall/wingnut idiocy. In my opinion this was not an opportunity for a Fox News style "conversation" Mano a Mano. Perhaps you might offer an apology to the world, or at least to the President. Yours sincerely

You can write to him here. I did.

user-pic

Thanks for the quicklink, Lis. Done.

user-pic

Thanks for this. It was fun.

And not being a Congressman, I am exempt from Congress' requirements as concerns decorum.

Well, okay, I'll admit it: I emailed language he can understand: hostile.

user-pic

Does it go through if you're not from SC? I think they filter them out at the server so the reps only get email from their constituents...

I was gonna go to Kinkos and send some faxes today instead (props, CT).

user-pic

His main gov page has been unloadable for a good half hour now.....but you can also find more about him here:

http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_102307/content/01125109.guest.html

No surprise.

user-pic

You really are so quick. You and Bwak and Seashell.

It is fun to watch you work.

user-pic

Done - thank you for the links

user-pic

ditto, my message:

You heckling of the Commander in Chief was a disgrace to the country and to all those who wear or have worn the uniform, particularly those brave and dedicated servicemen and women who risk their lives every day in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I say clean your own house you have a Governor of your own party who is a self admitted liar.

user-pic

Well, Joe Wilson just exposed what he is, and what his party has become.

user-pic

I wrote him and said:

"How dare you.

You should give up your healthcare benefits and give them to the first homeless constituent you find in SC.

How dare you."

user-pic

Good. And no, a mere apology is of course not to be accepted and not acceptable.

This man disgraced the country tonight.

user-pic

I gasped out loud. Then a single tear slid down my face, and now I just want to hunt him down and ram my fist down his throat. Or move to SC long enough to vote against him.

Shameful. Just shameful.

user-pic

Wait for me Stilli! I'm goin' with ya!

user-pic

Stilli, no, stop. Do Not Move to South Carolina.
Even on a drunken dare.

user-pic

If you are a childless, independently weathly adult, by all means go spend some time in Charleston SC. Do not take children or impressionable adults into that state.

user-pic

Done. And demanded not only a public apology to the American people, but he should crawl to the White House and beg for the President's forgiveness.

FYI his Democratic 2010 opponent is Rob Miller. I just donated $25 just to help Kick Wilson's ass out of office.

http://robmillerforcongress.com/sunset

user-pic

Good for you!

user-pic

Thanks, I was wondering about that. I've posted this everywhere I could.

user-pic

Awesome, jsf. Thanks.

user-pic

According to update on CNN, Miller has raised $40k for campaign tonight! Direct result of Wilson's outburst.

Hmmm, positive out of negative - I like it!

user-pic

What do you expect from a lap dog that votes party line 96% of the time and has sponsored or cosponsored 262 bills one which has passed. He's not a thinker just a blurter.

user-pic

That's why I tried to use really little words he can understand. And it came down on him like a ton of bricks, so he'll get that too.

Two thumbs up for the link.

user-pic

I have watching these addresses since Reagan--maybe before that?-- and I have never seen--or don't remember--an outburst from a member of Congress like this one.

This was an all time low for Republicans.

user-pic

It wasn't just what Joe Wilson did, though that was the most egregious behavior. But Republicans were also waving around copies of some bill they supposedly wrote and holding up signs mocking Obama during the speech. It's like they are now taking their cues from the Town Hall monsters they created.

user-pic

Who was the ass with the sign on his lap reading, "What bill?"

The jerks act like third graders succumbing to mutualized peer pressure to conform or else.

And every one of them wondering whether s/he's leading the conformity or conforming to it.

user-pic

And his one and only "shout-out" was over Obama saying that "No, it's NOT true that we will cover illegal immigrants with our health care plan".

What a fucker.

Showed his true colors, didn't he?

Thanks, Lou Dobbs.

user-pic

If I could make myself watch Dobbs, I would -- just to see how he handle this apparent 'protoge'

user-pic

It took me a while, but I finally got on. Among other things, I told him he behaved like a silly kid, and as with all silly kids, it made him look worse than anything the president might have said or done.

What an ass.

user-pic

I, for one, think that a censure of Rep. Wilson is in order...

user-pic

Highly seconded.

user-pic

Censure is a little tough. I think eveyone makes rat tails out of their towels wet the ends and snap him 'til he welted in the congressional showers.

user-pic

Yeah, well....coming from Mr. Clean....LOL....

Just kidding.

user-pic

At the very least!

I don't think that's enough! Horrific! Sad! Disgusting!

But, Cantor tweeting during speech was also extremely disrespectful and insulting!

Bet their mother's and constitutents are really proud of these guys! (Or maybe they are and that's the motivation?!?)

user-pic

Yes, I saw that! Cantor, front row, texting to someone during the speech. They just have no class whatsoever. And holding up signs and bills like it was a town hall. Congress has lost any sense of decorum. It was really embarassing. How can anyone take them seriously when they're acting like a bunch of drunken frat boys.

user-pic

We have the votes, don't we? Strip him of his committee assignments, move mailroom and put his office there.

Could his district be competitive? (Probably not?)

user-pic

While I think censure is appropriate, I worry about turning Joe Wilson into a martyr for the right if this goes too far. I don't want this to be yet another distraction or another way that Republicans can carry on their bullshit meme about how the Democrats are marginalizing them (but gosh Mr. Wilson, we don't need to marginalize you, you are doing fine with that all by yourself).

user-pic

I think he being a take-down in response to the character assassination of Van Jones would be just.

"Martyr"!? They're all victims, so they make martyrs of themselves before anyone else can.

user-pic

This is an embarrassment of historic merit. How it must feel to be on the wrong side of history?
We should not let this detract from the overriding message delivered tonight.
I do support and have registered my objection to representative Wilson's behavior directly.

user-pic

An embarassment of global proportions, as evidenced by this post being from Great Britain. Of course, if we took the GOP meme, we could avoid any accountability because he is not in our Party. You know, he's not my Representative because I did not vote for him. Onemight even say, as he insults the President of the USA, he is not a real American.

user-pic

My letter to Joe:

"I am appalled by your outburst at the joint session of Congress. This act of disrespect for the Presidency (not just the President) was embarrassing for us all, but more embarrassing for you, your constituents and for your mother.

You owe the President and the whole country an apology.

I have only once in all my 57 years sent a check to support ANY out of state person running for office, as I don't think it is the business of people from other states to determine who represents those in another state. That will go to two today. I will actively seek out your opponent and contribute to his/her campaign. Count on it."

user-pic

Good for you STilli, good for you. He already is apologizing--sort of. Well the President of the United States was lying, but.....

user-pic

Pardon my momentarily informality, DD, but he can apologize up his own asshole. He needs to be censured, etc., etc., etc.

user-pic

Is caning acceptable? Could we hook him up with some left-over Bush era CIA camp in a country that canes? I mean, they cane in Indonesia (?) for graffiti. What about disgracing the presidency?

Seriously, I've been rebutting your racism comments on another blog, but the lack of respect for the president here from our own goddamn representatives really floors me.

user-pic

So here's one we can agree about.

But you know what? In the morning, the ass-jocks will be on praising his "courage" and urging more to do this and claiming the censuring him is a badge of honor cause he's a folk hero, blah-blah.

Pelosi should find a way to make him really regret this and make others think hard about it. I honestly don't see any other way. An apology as I've written is utterly meaningless; he's a Glenn Becker. "Sure they made me apologize, but South Carolina is standing mighty proud and mighty tall today", yaddah-yaddah. Make him wish he had never dreamed of this is all I can think of.

And Cantor's phone needs to be taken away next time.

user-pic

Rove has already laughed about it. He thought "it was hilarious".

user-pic

And next time will be regular laugh-in.

This guy needs to be made an example of. Simple as that.

user-pic

Rove? The Architect who brought the Bush Regime and it's despicable, arrogant, and deviant tactics to the White House and demolished any prestige this nation ever had laughed about it? That's the example we should emulate? Rove?

I know you are not suggesting this, but my gut spasmed a little when I thought about that shithead and how anyone gives him a microphone. He is so unworthy, a complete loser. You can dress him up, but he's not respectable.

user-pic

It would also be great if the Republicans would find a way to punish Wilson--he did in fact act in a completely disrespectful and embarrassing way. There may be more, but I've only seen McCain saying out loud that it was stupid: http://www.cleveland.com/nation/index.ssf/2009/09/us_rep_joe_wilsons_outburst_dr.html

user-pic

Only if we can find an official Preston Brooks cane.

user-pic

I also sent him an email telling him he is a disgrace and that I conributed to Rob Miller. And I sent an email to Nancy Pelosi asking that Wilson be censured. I hope Miller raises $100,000 or more off this. The Act Blue page for Miller (kossacks4miller) is already almost at $31,500. Whoa, I refreshed the page and it went to $32,500 in just a couple of minutes.

user-pic

I'm in for 10 bucks, and Miller's almost at 80 grand! Step on that lil cockroach

While everyone is in the writing mode, I think a note to the House Republican Leader .... He's the one ultimately responsible for the behavior of the minority Representatives.

Joe Wilson obviously hates all those who died in the attack on Pearl Harbor because he always ends his speeches in the House by saying; "And we will never forget 9/11".

Unless of course he doesn't know about Pearl Harbor.

user-pic

He forgot the Alamo, the Maine and the POW/MIA, too.

user-pic

and this.

user-pic

As of 2:00 p.m. ET, total contributions to Rob Miller, former U. S. Marine who served in Iraq and who is the Democratic challenger to Republican Joe Wilson in next hear's election, are nearly $320,000!

I sent a few dollars and hope you will, too.

http://www.actblue.com/entity/fundraisers/19079

I also used the link in the first post above to vent my anger at Wilson for his insult to the President. I hope you will, too.

And we should urge Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer to push for censure of Wilson for violating the House's rules of decorum. Insulting the President of the United States during his speech to a joint session of Congress is unconscionable.

user-pic

I find it incredibly dispiriting that after a fascinating speech devoted mainly to a comprehensive description of a health care reform agenda, about which there are many important and worthwhile questions to ask, so many people are obsessed with one intemperate, one-second outburst, from a single representative, and that insignificant event is splayed all aver the intertube headline pages.

"Representative Calls President Liar!"

Ooohhh. The effrontery! The republic totters.

People who are so easily absorbed in this kind of sideshow frivolity and emotional button-pushing when their government is debating the merits of plans affecting millions of people and trillions of dollars aren't fit to govern themselves.

Let it go. It's nothing. Really.

user-pic

AMEN!!!!

How many posts have there been here about Wilson and what he shouted? I want to talk about how we twist the Blue Dogs arms and get them with the program...Wilson and his Glenn Beck worshipping, teabagging freaks aren't worth the bandwidth. They are irrelevant to this discussion now by their own choice.

user-pic

Lib,

point taken, but its fun taunting the wingnuts when they screw up. :-)

user-pic

Yeah it is...but there comes a point to get back to the business of progress John. I think some of us are frustrated that after such a great, perhaps transformational, speech by our president yesterday all we can focus on today is one the village idiots who just pissed all over himself.

I am all for taunting...but it is like a flood of it around here today. ;-)

:-)

user-pic

Is there one of these little symbol thingies for "just jerkin off"?

user-pic

Don't know how closely anyone is still following this thread, but here goes.

Merrill recently posted this, which I found interesting.

The Medicare Modernization Act. Section 1011 program was announced on May 9, 2005. It provides federal funding of emergency health services furnished to undocumented aliens. This program provides $250 million per year for the years 2005-2008 for hospital, certain physicians, and ambulance providers to recoup the costs of providing needed and EMTALA mandated emergency medical care.

I went wandering to see what I could find out about this--king of my habit, don'tcha know?

ANYHOW--here's what I posted as a comment.--modified a bit.

It seems Mr. Wilson was for aid to illegal immigrants before he was against it.

Medicare Modernization Act 2003--enacted when the White House and the House of Representatives were controlled by Republicans and the Senate Split 50-50. And the authorization for 2005-2008 pretty much ditto.

And guess what? Representative Wilson voted FOR this bill.

Public Law 108-173 http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2003/roll668.xml

He did vote yes on Dana Rohrbacher's amendment to make require employment records as part of the determination of eligibility requirements.
http://www.votesmart.org/issue_keyvote_detail.php?cs_id=8282&can_id=26732

But the amendment failed. (I had this wrong on Merrill's blog, I'm off to correct it now)

Now we all know what hypocrisy smells like, if we didn't before.

I should also add that he's Joe like Joe the Plumber is Joe. Unless he's changed his name since 2008, he's Rep. Addison Graves Wilson Sr.

I guess Addison lacks the common touch
