Dear Joe
Sir
You are an Ass.
Your petulant display of ill-informed disrespect defines your character. "You lie", you shouted at the current President. I think you may have been a little late - you would probably have been more accurate had you offered this outburst to the previous President, or Previous Vice-President for that matter. Goodness knows what the American People will think of you now, fortunately being English I feel marginally less embarassed that your buffoonery erupted on the International stage, and served as a magnificent example of Party - in - denial/freefall/wingnut idiocy. In my opinion this was not an opportunity for a Fox News style "conversation" Mano a Mano. Perhaps you might offer an apology to the world, or at least to the President.
Yours sincerely

Thanks for this. It was fun.
And not being a Congressman, I am exempt from Congress' requirements as concerns decorum.
Well, okay, I'll admit it: I emailed language he can understand: hostile.

Does it go through if you're not from SC? I think they filter them out at the server so the reps only get email from their constituents...
I was gonna go to Kinkos and send some faxes today instead (props, CT).

Shameful. Just shameful.

Done. And demanded not only a public apology to the American people, but he should crawl to the White House and beg for the President's forgiveness.
FYI his Democratic 2010 opponent is Rob Miller. I just donated $25 just to help Kick Wilson's ass out of office.

I have watching these addresses since Reagan--maybe before that?-- and I have never seen--or don't remember--an outburst from a member of Congress like this one.
This was an all time low for Republicans.
September 9, 2009 10:27 PM | Reply | Permalink
It wasn't just what Joe Wilson did, though that was the most egregious behavior. But Republicans were also waving around copies of some bill they supposedly wrote and holding up signs mocking Obama during the speech. It's like they are now taking their cues from the Town Hall monsters they created.

But, Cantor tweeting during speech was also extremely disrespectful and insulting!

Yes, I saw that! Cantor, front row, texting to someone during the speech. They just have no class whatsoever. And holding up signs and bills like it was a town hall. Congress has lost any sense of decorum. It was really embarassing. How can anyone take them seriously when they're acting like a bunch of drunken frat boys.

While I think censure is appropriate, I worry about turning Joe Wilson into a martyr for the right if this goes too far. I don't want this to be yet another distraction or another way that Republicans can carry on their bullshit meme about how the Democrats are marginalizing them (but gosh Mr. Wilson, we don't need to marginalize you, you are doing fine with that all by yourself).

This is an embarrassment of historic merit. How it must feel to be on the wrong side of history?
We should not let this detract from the overriding message delivered tonight.
I do support and have registered my objection to representative Wilson's behavior directly.

An embarassment of global proportions, as evidenced by this post being from Great Britain. Of course, if we took the GOP meme, we could avoid any accountability because he is not in our Party. You know, he's not my Representative because I did not vote for him. Onemight even say, as he insults the President of the USA, he is not a real American.

My letter to Joe:
"I am appalled by your outburst at the joint session of Congress. This act of disrespect for the Presidency (not just the President) was embarrassing for us all, but more embarrassing for you, your constituents and for your mother.
You owe the President and the whole country an apology.
I have only once in all my 57 years sent a check to support ANY out of state person running for office, as I don't think it is the business of people from other states to determine who represents those in another state. That will go to two today. I will actively seek out your opponent and contribute to his/her campaign. Count on it."

Is caning acceptable? Could we hook him up with some left-over Bush era CIA camp in a country that canes? I mean, they cane in Indonesia (?) for graffiti. What about disgracing the presidency?
Seriously, I've been rebutting your racism comments on another blog, but the lack of respect for the president here from our own goddamn representatives really floors me.
September 10, 2009 3:18 AM | Reply | Permalink
So here's one we can agree about.
But you know what? In the morning, the ass-jocks will be on praising his "courage" and urging more to do this and claiming the censuring him is a badge of honor cause he's a folk hero, blah-blah.
Pelosi should find a way to make him really regret this and make others think hard about it. I honestly don't see any other way. An apology as I've written is utterly meaningless; he's a Glenn Becker. "Sure they made me apologize, but South Carolina is standing mighty proud and mighty tall today", yaddah-yaddah. Make him wish he had never dreamed of this is all I can think of.
And Cantor's phone needs to be taken away next time.

I also used the link in the first post above to vent my anger at Wilson for his insult to the President. I hope you will, too.
And we should urge Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer to push for censure of Wilson for violating the House's rules of decorum. Insulting the President of the United States during his speech to a joint session of Congress is unconscionable.

I find it incredibly dispiriting that after a fascinating speech devoted mainly to a comprehensive description of a health care reform agenda, about which there are many important and worthwhile questions to ask, so many people are obsessed with one intemperate, one-second outburst, from a single representative, and that insignificant event is splayed all aver the intertube headline pages.
"Representative Calls President Liar!"
Ooohhh. The effrontery! The republic totters.
People who are so easily absorbed in this kind of sideshow frivolity and emotional button-pushing when their government is debating the merits of plans affecting millions of people and trillions of dollars aren't fit to govern themselves.
Let it go. It's nothing. Really.

Don't know how closely anyone is still following this thread, but here goes.
Merrill recently posted this, which I found interesting.
I went wandering to see what I could find out about this--king of my habit, don'tcha know?
ANYHOW--here's what I posted as a comment.--modified a bit.
It seems Mr. Wilson was for aid to illegal immigrants before he was against it.
Medicare Modernization Act 2003--enacted when the White House and the House of Representatives were controlled by Republicans and the Senate Split 50-50. And the authorization for 2005-2008 pretty much ditto.
And guess what? Representative Wilson voted FOR this bill.
Public Law 108-173 http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2003/roll668.xml
He did vote yes on Dana Rohrbacher's amendment to make require employment records as part of the determination of eligibility requirements.
http://www.votesmart.org/issue_keyvote_detail.php?cs_id=8282&can_id=26732
But the amendment failed. (I had this wrong on Merrill's blog, I'm off to correct it now)
Now we all know what hypocrisy smells like, if we didn't before.
I should also add that he's Joe like Joe the Plumber is Joe. Unless he's changed his name since 2008, he's Rep. Addison Graves Wilson Sr.
I guess Addison lacks the common touch
