Hello 2009, Goodbye TPMElection Central
Well things were hot and heavy here during the primaries, and although they cooled down a little for the general election, this was still a place to here some interesting viewpoints. Despite Billy Glad's insistence, this was never an echo chamber, even though the contributors generally self-selected on the basis of political perspectives. But now (and I hate to break it to some of you) the election is over. Everyone left. I'm not even sure if there's anyone out there to read this.
So, I'll see you next time. And by "next time" I mean the next time intelligent liberals and progressives have been forced to endure eight years of an increasingly horrifying right-wing evangelical conservative dictatorship bent upon undermining civil rights, the U.S. Constitution, the Geneva Conventions, global stability, and the general welfare of our democracy. It's been a unique year in terms of the transition we've now chosen to make. Historic, really, and not just because of our new President's skin color. We're reversing course, thank God, and just in time. We've seen the heyday of the comment boards here come and go, and although some day they could return to the same level of vibrancy and immediacy, I hope I'm not cursed to live through such interesting times again.
Allsburg signing off.

Let's bank the coals, but don't let the fire go out. God only knows what might happen after the inauguration transpires. I'd hate to lose a forum this juicy just because the elections are (mostly) history.

Sorry to see ya go Allsburg. You need to still comment occasionally, (holidays maybe?) if only to change your avatar so we can see how that adorable baby is growing.
All in all it has been an interesting roller coaster ride that will make history, but I suppose after 20 months we should get back to our families. (Gasp! There are more important things than politics?)
Take Care :)

Just a little FYI, we'll be relaunching the Election Central site next month with a new design, a new name and a new focus on covering what the people in Washington are actually doing. It's a new year and a new direction. Let me know if you have any questions. I'll try to answer them here.

good news for hemoroid sufferers.
Besides there are still three senate seats to fill.
And two years from now the Reps will have to defend nineteen seats, if I counted correctly.
Elections are a lot like the War on Terror. They will always be with us.

Allsburg seems to be assume that something has changed. A little early to check out Allsburg, God is in his heaven and the lobbyists are in K Street.

Let's hope there is no "next time" for all of that!

We have yet to really hold any president or Congress accountable to way we should. The closest we got was at the beginning of the country, moments during the 1960s and these last few years that political blogs attracted so many lurking citizens tired of the corporate media take on everything.
Go back to sleep now is a horrible idea unless we want to keep reliving the disaster that these last 40 years have been, culminating in the last 8 that seem so shocking, but really aren't that out of character for a country of questionable ethical standards such as our own.
Until we get involved and stay involved, America will never break out of its tragic pendulum swing from one extreme to the next.
