When will TPM call Missouri, Mexico and Canada?
People around here act like this election is over, but there are still electoral votes waiting to be counted. As is clearly seen on the Talking Points Memo electoral map, we are still awaiting final results in Missouri, Mexico and Canada.
Now, Missouri's 11 electoral votes don't really count for much, but Mexico is huge. With over 100 million people, Mexico has nearly three times the population of the next largest state, California. That gives Mexico about 145 electoral votes. Add in another 45 votes for Canada, and you'll see that this election is still up in the air. Why, if Canada, Mexico and Missouri all go for McCain, then...well, McCain would still lose. But it would be awfully close, pushing McCain to within three votes of victory. Which brings us to...
The Bahamas, the often-overlooked series of still-white islands off the coast of Florida. 300,000 people - somewhat fewer than Wyoming, but still meriting 3 electoral votes.
That's right, folks - don't believe the press. This election's not over. If all the uncalled states on the TPM map go for McCain, he will have won by the narrowest of margins.

They're not "waiting to be counted." We Canadians counted 'em. And under the Canada-Skip-The-US-And-Deal-Straight-With-Mexico-Free-Trade-Agreement we agreed to count theirs too. So WE all know the results. They're verrrrry nice. I'd let you look, but you are filthy American types.
For now, we're just sitting back, waiting for Alaska to finish up. And Minnesota. And all those other places which seem to have run out of fingers & toes. But once you guys are done, and get around to askin' "Who DID win that election?", well... THEN we can talk.
P.S. We also got Utah's & Alabama's Electoral College votes. Won 'em in a poker game.
P.P.S. Well, we HAD Alabama's votes. But they got jam on them, and we tried soaking them in the sink, but then the dogs got in while we weren't looking, and... you know. Dogs, eh?! Nonetheless, we got a lot left. Our accountants say they're worth at LEAST 3 barrels of elderberries. Fresh ones. Throw in a couple of cows & you can call yourself a Democratic nation. Or Republican. Just make with the elderberries. And no funny schtuff.

Nice try, baby, but Canada is not a winner-take-all state. Quebec wrote in "France." You also left out the Atlantic, the Pacific, and the Gulf of Mexico, which are heavily pro-Obama because of the whole drill-baby-drill thing. No pun intended.

You do seem to be curiously ignoring Russia, which as the map accurately reflects, can be seen from Sarah Palin's doorstop. That's a hell of a lot of electoral votes right there.

Not to mention Cuba.
Well, I guess I did mention it.

Okay, now I'm confused. I thought Missouri was white because Putin had reared his head and taken it over.

Yes indeed. I have been wondering as well about Missouri.
Why isn't that state colored blue/red yet?

Being from Missouri I can assure you those votes are coming..the only propblem is they sent some govenment man in a nice grey suit into the Orzarks to collect them ballot boxes and someone's Uncle's Sister's Brother's Cousin mistook him for a revenuer looking for moonshine stills...and well ya know them thar hills got's lots o places to hide n stuff...sooooooo maybe eventually they'll find all them thar ballots but till then lean back kick your shoes off and relax a spell

Well Quinn, If you were a 41-year old old f*ck like myself no doubt you too would have seen this suspense classic. ;-) Deliverance is a movie starring Burt Reynolds and Jon Voight, which features a touching, romantic scene with Ned Beatty and an, uhm, 'passionate' hillbilly.
Robert
P.S. But Jon Voight's the one with the 'purdy mouth on 'im.' Ever wondered where the luscious Angelina Jolie get's those big, juicy lips? Collagen? No, Dad!

You refer to the Bahamas as the often-overlooked series of still-white islands off the coast of Florida
I've never had the pleasure of visiting, but according to our friends at Wikipedia, the population is not now and has never been predominantly white. The people living there at the time of Columbus's arrival were extinct within 25 years, alas, and the current population is stated to be
McCain supporters among Bahamians are no doubt in a distinct minority.
And of course, if you want to produce a memorable campaign slogan, the Bahama/Obama rhyme is hard to resist.
