That was Obama's brushback pitch, Hillary. What you have to worry about is his fastball

Hillary. Hillary. Hillary.

Will you never learn?

President-elect Obama meets wirh her, and floats the idea of Secretary of State. So she tries to lock that "offer" in with a couple of well-placed leaks.

There are no immediate denials from insiders like Rahm Emanuel, so Hillary proxies like Carville go on record that such silence often signals confirmation.

Obama don't play like that. And if you think the latest leaks about Bill Richardson discussing exacly the same position as head of State are freelancing, I've got a Bridge to Nowhere to sell you. That's a calculated, pre-authorized Obama message to Hillary.

A brushback.

Maybe Hillary would be a solid choice for State. Offhand, I'd say she'd be better than Richardson. But my guess is she just really screwed up her chances.

I have trouble picturing Clinton as a better Secretary of State than Richardson. One has dealt with world leaders in successful negotiations, including nuke reduction talks with the North Koreans, represented the US to the United Nations, and held a Cabinet post previously - and it wasn't Clinton.

Andrea Mitchell said she got the story of Hillary as potential SoS from two Obama staffers.

Obama leaked them both on purpose. Either that or there are too many people in Obama's team.

Obama's camp leaked the story and invited Bill Richardson as additional pressure for her to take the role. If she declines, that asshat is next in line. It's a way to keep his competition close, make sure she's out of the way in the Senate so Congress is supplicant to him. She's pushing his agenda not her own and is off the national scene into foreign affairs.

I'll admit the vengeance is a nice touch and if she does accept I want a live feed from CNN of Richardson's reaction, but I still want Hillary in the Senate. If Bill Richardson uses the same diplomacy, tact, and honor in the Middle East that he did in giving his endorsement to Obama, looks like the Middle East process is in for a rough four years.
