Hope in the Heartland
I just got back from the Legion Mall in Indianapolis on a beautiful fall day - the perfect setting for an assemblage of diverse people with a similar dream for the nation, and the man who would lead the country into a new reality.
This was my first campaign rally this close to Election Day, and with a frontrunner to boot.
It was well worth the 54-year wait and even the 90 minutes on my feet waiting for Barack Obama to take the stage.
There were an estimated 35,000 people there in the middle of the workday (thank God it was fall break so kids could come). One of the men on the security detail commented on the crowd not being "rowdy." I call it mature and thoughtful. But it was a beautiful day, and an inspired speech to a hungry audience.
