Yes, taxes are patriotic!
Last night Sarah Palin repeated the tired republican talking point
mocking Biden's statement that paying taxes is patrotic. I say fight
back on this! These are the people who hide behind empty slogans like
"support our troops" and "country first." Well, guess what? If you
really want to "support" our troops, then the only way most Americans
can really do so is by paying taxes! So, if supporting the troops is
patriotic, then so is paying taxes. And the same thing with "country
first." How do most Americans put their country first? With their
1040s! I find it insulting that wingers constantly talk about lowering
taxes as if it's the solution for any problem, yet always hide behind
shallow patriotism. Nobody likes paying taxes. But real patriotism
isn't easy. It means shared sacrifice, including paying taxes that
serve the greater good of the country. Say it loud, say it proud: Taxes
are patriotic!

I see taxes as the only form of community service that some people will ever do...

Do you think it's a good idea that Obama's tax plan will significantly increase the number of people that don't pay taxes? Is that patriotism or is it socialism?
I'm all for raising taxes on the "rich" but should that money just be spoon fed right to the lowest income families? Some who don't have jobs and don't pay taxes already?
That's just like the stimulus checks that went out earlier this year - it may help in the very short term but doesn't help in the long run.

My Dad was a career Naval Officer (21 years)and he always told me that it was our duty as Americans to pay our fair share of taxes so that the US could continue to keep us safe both militarily and in roads etc. My Dad died in 1968 and the world was a bit differant than it is now and I still will pay my share of taxes to keep us safe.
