What is the story with New Hampshire?
Why is New Hampshire so red? Are they the "Georgetown" style of conservatives McCain refers to? I am confused as to why this northeastern state is red, and am curious if someone can tell me. The latest poll is ridiculous, shows Obama headed for a double digit whooping. WTF?

New Hampshire has an inordinately large population of... hmm... unable to find a gentler word I must say "hicks", or perhaps "rednecks". Particularly in comparison to its northeastern sisters.
Is that enough said?

Many urban Boston techies have moved into the Nashua/Manchester/Concord corridor and their bedroom communities, or out to Portsmouth, but New Hampshire natives are mostly rural, small town types.
Their license plate says, "Live Free or Die" and a popular bumper sticker used to be "Welcome to New Hampshire - Now Go Home." They complain about Masshole drivers and consider Vermont "woolly bears" to be hippies.

What are you talking about? electoral-vote.com has Obama up by 1% in New Hampshire.

Are my contacts so cloudy I misread? Wow, I take it back. I thought I saw McCain up by double digits. But even the closeness of the polls there intrigues me. As a Washingtonian and a daughter of a Dartmouth grad, I always had an image of New Hampshire as progressive but I am obviously totally clueless.

Recall Senator Obama was leading Senator Clinton by ranges around %5 - %10 shortly before the New Hampshire primary.
When Senator Obama ultimately lost by approximately 3%, many election experts chose to cite Senator Clinton's "crying moment" as the reason. Several others chose to cite the false mailer sent out immediately before the vote claiming Senator Obama was anti-abortion.
However, I always suspected what we were seeing in New Hampshire was the first real instance of the so-called Bradley Effect (or Wilder Effect) during this election cycle.
