“We wants it. We needs it. Must have the precious.” A great column by Gail Collins
I always enjoy Gail Collins columns.
This one is especially worth reading.
Click on recommend, so that other readers will get to see it, before this blog gets swallowed by the TPM black hole. Thanks

Excerpt:
I miss August. August was neat. The Dow was over 10,000 and nobody had ever heard of Sarah Palin.
Remember how we used to joke about John McCain looking like an old
guy yelling at kids to get off his lawn? It’s only in retrospect that
we can see that the keep-off-the-grass period was the McCain campaign’s
golden era. Now, he’s beginning to act like one of those movie
characters who steals the wrong ring and turns into a troll.
During that last debate, while he was wandering around the stage,
you almost expected to hear him start muttering: “We wants it. We needs
it. Must have the precious.”
Remember when McCain’s campaign ads were all about his being a prisoner of war? I really miss them.
Now they’re all about the Evil That Is Obama. The newest one,
“Ambition,” has a woman, speaking in one of those sinister
semiwhispers, saying: “When convenient, he worked with terrorist Bill
Ayers. When discovered, he lied.” Then suddenly, with no warning
whatsoever, she starts ranting about Congressional liberals and risky
subprime loans. Then John McCain pops up to say he approved it. All in
30 seconds! And, of course, McCain would think it’s great. For the
first time, the Republicans appear to have captured his thought process
on tape.

Sorry. I refuse to recommend blogs by shameless self-promoters.
I remain ever hopeful of seeing new names on the board. The Kiddy Group is beyond stale; your expiration date passed.

All media promotes it's product. I do not need you. Pipsqueak, move along.
A reminder is not self promoting. It is asking those who approve of Gail Colin's column to not forget to show the sign of their approval, by drawing attention to other readers. Those who do not approve of the column, are free to not recommend it. That is how it works.
Now post some blogs of your own, instead of continuing to live out the life of an arrested development school hall monitor, suffering from a petty satrap complex.

Thanks Carl.
Yes I know that I sometimes push the limits. I will tell you why. I am old, and retired. I have no formal education, so I am a semi-literate person. I crawled into the web within the last two years, after having taught myself to be able to do some typing.
I eased into posting some comments, and only recently have ventured into the blogger end of the pool. I find that across the web, blogs are almost all alike. There is a blandness to them, with a lot of short hand gibberish, sprinkled with heavy doses of lol, and LMAO and so on.
So what I decided to take a shot at was tossing in some solid Irish pub like observations and comments. That involves a lot of verbal jousting, quips, and creative warping of the language. It was the forge of eccentricity that hammered out a Wilde, a Joyce, and so on.
I will give you an example of what I am driving at: Remember when Sinead O'Connor slagged the Pope on American TV, and it killed her in the USA.
Well, you can say stuff like that in an Irish Pub, and get a good debate about it, and some times, by the end of the evening, someone like Sinead might end up, switching sides, and debating the exact opposite to what she first said about the Pope. It is great stuff. Very invigorating, and it builds and tones the muscles of language.
Every one is free to say pretty much what ever jumps into their heads. There is very little that is taboo, because in Ireland they do not have something called freedom of speech, like here in the USA, and of course that really means that you are only free to say what every one agrees you can say.
Recall when Bono got handed an award, and he said on live TV, "this is fuckin' brilliant". Well of course it was, except in America, where people were horrified to hear a world said that they already had stored away in their filthy mental vault. Do you see what I am driving at. They already had that filthy word stored in their own heads. Bono did not put it there. If they did not have it stored there, then the word would not have bothered them , not one fuckin' bit. Alright, that was just for my own amusement.
Well, to conclude. I am probably going to give it up right after the election. I am going to stay pushing to get Senator Obama elected, and probably then shut it down.
You see, I find myself mostly alone in this pub, with no one who knows how the pub chat is supposed to ebb and flow, so I am going to stop talkin to myself. Slainte.

Before you go accusing yourself of semi-literacy, please bear one thing in mind:
The Leader Of The Free World [tm] was (allegedly) educated at the TWO top Ivy League universities.
He still cannot string-together one coherent sentence in the fucking English laguage.
You may well be the Grandma Moses of commentators (late bloomer, no formal training, etc.). Have another Guinness, and keep fulminating to your heart's content, laddie.

For the record. Here is a current Blog of mine, that has made it into the top ten.
Take a gander at it, Petty Satrap. No request on it from me to have people recommend it. Just go away, child.

Evidence of your woeful ignorance, in my eye.
Congrats, Kiddy. You've made it atop a pointless popularity list in the ether - which is in itself but one of thousands of like websites on the intertubes. All equally pointless.
Here's a fiver; go buy yourself a cold one and interact with some real people in the real world.
Better still: make some phone calls, canvass in your 'hood. You know... something tangible.

You lied, and when I provided proof that you lied, then you reverted back to your usual, arrested development, Petty Satrap conduct. Where is your current blog output? None to found.
Those that can do, and those that can't appoint their selves as experts. Adios Petty Satrap.

I feel so lucky to not have received the approval of this cretin.
I wear it as a badge of honor.

Well, much as I've enjoyed playing with your puerile self, I have a life offline which beckons.
Toodles, Kiddy.

I sure hope you mean it. Several people have recommended the article, and yet you, who claim that you want no part of it, just can not stay away from my blog. You also claim to know all about my blogging history.
Adios, Petty Satrap.

I loved Gail's line about ailin Palin demanding answers, it was hilarious & very much one of many questions going unanswered about her. If Obama is 'the one' she is the protected one.
I'm always grateful when interesting op eds are brought to attention, no busy person has time to look for all the goodies, very grateful to you & MsJoanne.

The way I look at it is:
There are still some fantastic columnists, churning out great columns. I am afraid that they may not be getting the attention and support that they will need to survive. Their work product is far superior to almost all that one finds on the blogs, mine included. We are just a cacophony of bloggerskites.(look up blatherskites, for my meaning).
We need to support the great newspaper columnists.
That is why I try to draw attention to their columns. If I can introduce even one reader to their work, then it will have been worthwhile.

Your logic is flawed beyond belief.
This person has a blog on the Internet. But what you have done is gummed up original works from TPM readers on the Rec'ed list to repost something that was available elsewhere.
If you aren't impressed with the Rec'ed list here, may I suggest going to another site?

Liam:
If you want to simply highlight a blog at TPM, may I suggest stillidealistic's thread? You did no work here, added no commentary, wrote nothing.

Go away. You are another one of those self appointed twits who wants to run the site. You recently clogged up the blogs with your own rubbish about what is a troll, and another dedicated to whining about which blogs make it to the top ten. None of us can control what each individual decides to recommend, nor should we. You keep trying to. Just go away.

Here is a difference:
a) There was original content
b) There was a strong comment section
If you promise to limit yourself to just two blogs that are "rubbish", I'd be happy. This blog, where you did no work, is #1.
Interestingly, you resort to name calling immediately. For an older person (I'm assuming because of your failing eyesight), I wonder what kind of example *you* try to set.

Look,
I know that you think that God put you in charge on here. I not going to take orders from you, so quit wasting your time on here. You churn out your share of blogs that make it to the top, talking about trolls and other pure mindless drivel, so here is the word from me; I have never told you how you should post, and I am not about to let you control what I do, so take a hike.

It borders on spamming the site.

For the record, people are free to comment as they see fit on the contents of Ms. Collins' column. That is open to discussion. I think it makes a far more worthy topic, than some guy posting his pet whines about who makes it to the top ten blogs, and who is a troll.
Ms. Collins' work product is vastly superior to those whiners blog products, so all they are engaged in is trying to limit the amount of blogs, so that their's will gain more attention, by default.

I don't mind when people post links to worthy columns. That's half of what HuffPo does and all the blog sites link to one another and to columns and news articles.
I also don't mind it when these types of posts make it to the rec list, because generally that means there is a good discussion going on in the comments, this post being one exception to that rule.
It's impossible to read everything out there (unless you're Sarah Palin and reading all the newspapers and magazines everyday), so I appreciate a heads up when there's something really good. Thanks, liam.
