War with Letterman

FiveThirtyEight wrote:

On the whole, the massive voter registration drive and the routinely packed field offices lead us to believe Obama has a strong chance to pull an upset here in the Hoosier State. A war with David Letterman is not going over well in this state, as McCain's internal Indiana pollsters would be forced to confess. We'll be back in the state for Obama's visit to Indianapolis after a brief drop down to Belmont University for tomorrow night's debate.
Next to ignoring the middle class during the debate, the dumbest stroke of McCain's campaign has certainly been blowing off David Letterman. Not only did Letterman show his entire audience that the campaign suspension was a sham, he has repeated the same material night after night, for about two weeks, wringing every last vestige of humor out of it. No late night viewer will miss Letterman skewering McCain for using the economic crisis as a lame excuse to cop a better gig.

Declaring war on the news media, which facilitated the developed his mythical maverick persona, has also been a huge mistake.

Palin's brown shirt rallies that go over well with her red meat loving bigot base, I'm guessing, won't go over to well with swing voters.

Gotta love Duckface! (Something he and Paul Shaffer had going a while back.)

The guy has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to bullshit about things that matter. And he's funny. Not just ha-ha funny, smart ha-ha funny. Which may be why Leno gets somewhat higher Neilsens, if you think about it. Smart funny is more of a challenge. (Although I generally find Leno annoying, in the way that a small, yappy fur-ball of a dog constantly demanding attention is annoying.)

From Don Kaplan at the New York Post:

David Letterman and Sen. John McCain are talking about making up.

McCain representatives and "Late Show" executives are negotiating an appearance on Letterman's show sometime around the final presidential debate on Oct. 15, according to knowledgeable sources.

McCain is expected to be in the New York area that week for the debate at Hofstra University on Long Island.

Representatives for both the McCain campaign and the Letterman show declined to comment yesterday.

One only hopes that Letterman skewers McCain live and in person.

I would accept his apology off the record, but I would not allow him live real time allowance for his BS.

Now when McCain appears to be losing. he figures he needs you now, but when the tables are turned he'll turn on the hand that feeds him, The MSM
