TPM Management:/Al Shaw: you have a bad navigation error on Reader Blogs
There is an error in Reader Blog navigation with the recent re-loading of the Reader Blog archives onto the new server that hurts functionality of the site for users. At the bottom of the "Recent Reader Blogs" page, you have listed the following: Recent Archives October 5-October 11, 2008 September 28-October 4, 2008 September 21-September 27, 2008 September 14-September 20, 2008 NONE OF THESE LINKS HAVE BEEN ASSIGNED THE CORRECT URL TO TAKE YOU TO THOSE ARCHIVES, they all have the same url as the Recent Reader Blogs page: http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/archives.php It is only when one clicks on "Click here to view the full archive" is it possible to get to those weekly archives, to get links with the currently urls assigned to them. Readers who want to use the most recent weekly link to see Reader Blog posts from earlier in same day that have scrolled off. They click on the first archive it and think that is all there is. This is important because not having easy, clear accesss for all readers to a least a day or two of posts increases churn, rewards "in clubs" of regulars who follow each others' blogs by name, and is real negative as to getting new or old members to write posts of quality. If they spend a lot of time on a post, it is only accessible for a few hours for reading (and Recommends) except to readers who happen to have figured out they have to click on the top secret second link to get the real weekly archive.

Correction to the above:
All of the archive links on the Reader Blogs page have THIS url assigned to them:
http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/
which is the url for the Recent Reader Blogs page.

And for an example,
the actual url for the link labeled "October 5-11" posts should be:
http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/2008/10/05-week/
I got the correct url from the full archive page.

They've been ignoring internal page structure here. I'm going to try out the new setup today. This is Al's email:
Hey everyone,
Thank you for signing up for the myTPM beta test. I'm happy to say the test is now open.
A couple notes before you sign up:
1. Choose a NEW username, NOT your TPMCafe name. This is for testing only, and things may still shift before we open it up to the public.
2. Please spend some time with the software, and collect any bugs or problems, along with your impressions, likes, dislikes and other comments while using the system and email them to this address. This will help us develop the product.
3. When in the testing site, please try to stay within the "user" portion of the site. The top nav buttons (TPM/Muckraker/Election Central/Tv/Cafe) are still tied to our main live site, so they won't work. Everything within the user portion-- Dashboard and user blogs should keep working. Likewise, EC and Muck sidebars won't be populating with recommended stories on the test site. This will be finished for the live launch.
4. There is some rudimentary documentation (http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/how_to_use_the_tpm_community_t.php), but it is, by no means, complete. Please ask questions so we can start a true Frequently Asked Questions page. I'll also be answering questions here.
5. There is currently no link to the new master reader blog, which collects all reader posts. That page can be found here for now: http://ec2-67-202-52-64.compute-1.amazonaws.com/talk/blogs.
6. To make absolutely clear -- this is a TEST SITE -- nothing you do here will be reflected on the main talkingpointsmemo.com site and vice versa.
7. If you try to register with a certain email address and don't receive the verification email, it's probably because a few hosts/ISPs have the IP address of this server blacklisted. Please try a different address, if you don't recieve the email. Gmail and Yahoo appear to be working normally.
Here is the link to create an account:
http://ec2-67-202-52-64.compute-1.amazonaws.com/cgi-bin/mt-current/mt-cp.cgi?__mode=register&blog_id=20&return_to=http%3A%2F%2Fec2-67-202-52-64.compute-1.amazonaws.com%2Fcgi-bin%2Fmt-current%2Fmt-cp.cgi%3F__mode%3Dmy_dashboard%23_logout
Enjoy! And please send us those bug reports!
Thanks,
Al Shaw
