Maine: Battleground State?

I've heard some rumors that McCain is shifting resources to Maine to try to peel off a single electoral vote from the northern part of the state. I'm in Portland and would like to know if anyone else has heard this out there.

What's the strategy on this, do you think. Pull out of Michigan and start on Maine? There must be some sort of wild arithmetic going on the GOP campaign if they view this single EV as critical.

I'm in ME 2nd District - McCain or the Repub's have been TV advertising for a while on the Bangor stations - not surprising as that market spills over into New Hampshire. McCain lawn signs in my area are probably 10 to 1 over Obama. ME 2nd dist is definitely fertile ground for the Repubs. Susan Collins territory -

Senator McCain's campaign is targeting Maine's 2nd district:

1) In case of a 269-269 electoral tie (in which case, the lone (R) electoral vote from Maine would make the difference: 270-268).
2) As a defensive measure to potentially offset Senator Obama's efforts to "pick off" one of the electoral votes from Nebraska. See my post on this topic here:

This was addressed last week: When McSlime pulled out of Michigan -- conceded it to Obama -- he split those resources between ME and PA.

Piggy-backed on that was the rumor tha McSlime will also be pulling out of PA.

At any rate, it is quickly arriving at the point at which the best McSlime can do is endeavor to save face. Even that little isn't going to happen this time around.

I live just outside the 2nd. our phone banks, at the direction of the Obama state office, has been focused on the 2nd for more than 3 weeks. As mentioned by stevo, the 2nd is more rural, more conservative, more collins country. So it can be in play. McCain is desperate, i saw in an email from Maine Democratic Party that McCain may make a trip here. Let him come, we shall prevail over all the state
