Does CBS Really Edit/Believe Their POLL Data When It Flies in the Face of Common Sense?
CBS Poll: 65% of registered voters will watch VP Debate07:02 | 02/10/2008Jeff Glor, National Correspondent
CBS This Morning
In a package laying out why this Vice Presidential debate might have impact on the Presidential race, CBS' Jeff Glor released a new poll showing that it might. Sixty Five percent of registered voters asked in the survey said that they would "very likely" watch the Vice Presidential debate.
Will you watch the Vice Presidential Debate?
Very likely: 65%
Somewhat likely 31%
Not likely 12%
(margin of error +/- 3pts)
So - since there are now approximately 150 million registered voters, does CBS REALLY THINK that over 115 MILLION (Counting 65% of 150 million plus 15% of the 'somewhat likely' fence-sitters) people are going to watch tonight's VP debate (when barely over 50 MILLION watched the first PRESIDENTIAL debate)??
Are they REALLY that naive?

I wouldn't be suprised if it surpassed the first presidential debate to be honest. But by 100 million? You have to be shitting yourself.

Did I neglect to mention that there are several Baseball Playoff games on tonight as well?
I'm sure men all across America will permit their wives/girlfriends to commandeer the remote for 90 minutes to watch the VP debate.

Correction:
Only the Cubs/Dodgers game will run alongside the debate - but that is the premiere series going. So significant numbers will NOT be tuning in during that game (which begins at 8:37 Eastern Time - 23 minutes before the debate begins)
TV sets in homes and bars all across America will definitely NOT be tuned to the debate.

Only the truly pathological of political junkies are likely to sit through 90 minutes of any debate.
Most folks who will claim to have watched this debate (including me) will fall into one of the following categories:
1. Flip to the debate during the commercials of a) the cubs game; b) the opening season premiere of CSI; c) whatever reality show(s) are on against it.
2. Watch the selected highlights on the news.
3. Base their claim of having watched it on reviews they heard from other sources (kind of in the same way Ms Palin bans books).
