Channeling Tina Fey

I laughed almost to the point of tears last week watching Tina Fey responding to Amy's last question to her on SNL about getting cuter as the questions get tougher.

Who knew the McCain campiagn would actually use that template for Sarah Sixpack's debate prep.  I was just waiting for her to stick her finger in her cheek, and really channel Shirley Temple.

The insult to our collective American intelligence is absolutely surreal at this point.

You know, I actually had a similar thought. They're trying SO hard to portray her as folksy - Reaganesque (whatever that means). And it is coming across as terribly forced and scripted, to the point that she is evoking the image of someone trying to sell you something you don't want. I believe that this crap is backfiring. Clearly, this persona is something that Sarah learned early in her life, it's what she's used to get her where she is, but its utility is extremely limited. I really think that it's overplayed already to the point where it's insulting to the audience.

Folksy works if it seems to be real, genuine, who this person really is. That's not what comes across with Palin. It comes across as a role that the campaign is using to win votes. I suspect that "Joe Six Pack" just might resent the condescension.

I'm looking forward to SNL tomorrow.

For SNL and Fey, Sarah is the gift that just keeps on givin' us mega chuckles even amid our grimaces.
