At the Debate, Biden Should Pledge to Do More Press Conferences
The debate with Sarah Palin would be a great opportunity for Biden to make an issue of Palin hiding from the media. And he could do it completely non-confrontationally, without even directly referencing her. All he'd need to say is that he felt a single 90-minute debate was insufficient for the American people to get a full grasp on how, in his role as Vice President, he intends to work with and support Barack Obama in putting his agenda into action. And that therefore he intends to make himself available in a series of press conferences over the next few weeks so that reporters will have the opportunity, on behalf of the public, to ask him about what an Obama-Biden administration will look like, what they intend to do and how they plan to do it.
Sure, it would be transparent. But the next day Wolf Blitzer, Anderson Cooper, and the talking heads on all the nets would be asking, "So why isn't Sarah Palin holding any press conferences?"
I was initially reluctant to post this idea, because part of me fears some pitfalls in making more of an issue out of Palin, when it's McCain who the case really needs to be made against. But in that case, she's exhibit A. And in all these recent polls that show shifting towards Obama in swing states, Palin is consistently recurring (along with the economy) as a major cause for that movement. So I think there's something to be said for striking while the iron's hot.

I completely agree. Yes, transparent as you said, but he could do it without even mentioning her name. You know, "What do you mean? I'm just talking about making MYSELF more available to answer questions. My opponent can make her own decisions." That sort of thing.
And nice avatar, too.
