White Privilege and Barack vs. Palin/Bush
About 6 years ago, I participated in a program with other adults examining issues of identity and how it pertained to stereotypes and perceptions and how that lead to prejudice and misconceptions. Coming out of that, it verified for me that vast differences in experiences people have and how that affects their judgments of others around them. To this day, I believe white privilege exists just as male privilege does, just as class privilege does, just as being able does. Chris Rock eluded to this in one of his performances when he joked about the fact that George Bush bragged about being a C student,...can you imagine Barack ever joking about that? I found this piece by a guy named Tim Wise, a man long involved in these type of issues. He sums this up quite nicely....

Since those days, I have believed more about finding common ground than proving white privilege exists mainly because it's a waste of time), but his piece hits a chord.
