This is the best line Palin can muster against Obama?
From Palin's speech tonight:
"Here's how I look at the choice Americans face in this election. In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change."
Let's see... McCain initially was the consummate Washington insider in the 80's, then presented himself as an agent of change to distract people from the fact that he was about to lose his job for taking bribes. He plays the "change guy" again for a while when it's his best shot at getting elected President in 2000, then goes back to being an insider party hack during this year's primary, and now once again is presenting himself as the "change" candidate in the general election. I count three times that he's used change to promote his career.
So Palin must be arguing that Obama, on the other hand, was just trying to further his career when he turned down high-paying jobs after graduating from Harvard Law to become a community organizer? It would seem so, as she used this line just after ridiculing Obama for being a community organizer. Is she really trying to argue that people become community organizers because they want to promote their careers? If so, she has a gross misunderstanding of what community organizers do and how much money they make.
Does she really expect people to buy this line? Hillary tried the "ambition" line of argument against Obama and got laughed out of the room in what is now widely described as one of the biggest mistakes of her campaign. And now the Republicans are using exactly the same tactic. Good for them that this is the best they can do.
