The ultimate insult
You know what the real insult of the Sarah Palin pick is? It's that had McCain picked one of the men on his short list, they would have been a colleague and an adviser. With Palin, who clearly can advise on nothing, McCain essentially hired an apprentice.
Worse, he hired an apprentice he didn't even feel compelled to vet in the same way he did the guys, and who is little more than a carrot dangled in front of women, ogling male talk jocks and religious fundamentalists. That speaks volumes about what John McCain thinks about the value of women.

Good point.
Essentially, McCain picked someone non-threatening who would make him feel like the big shot. As you said, an apprentice who knows their place. A more seasoned and knowledgable pick might challenge him occassionally. The sense of sexist condescension here is palpabale.
Obama's pick of a heavyweight says volumes about his confidence and how he doesn't feel threatened or feel overshadowed by having a Joe Biden next to him.

McSame clearly feels contempt for women. Can he really believe that Women, conservative, liberal or independent would vote for a woman simply because she is a woman? Apparently. And he shows EXACTLY the same contempt for the christianist republican base. They are expected to vote for McSame simply because he chose a christianist to be on his ticket. The scary thing is that he is very probably right that the christianists WILL vote for the christianist. Can something be both true and insulting?
