The Mook and the Mid-Riff
You thought the culture wars were dead, didn't you. You buried your hatchet, but John McCain never buried his. I'm looking for my hatchet, but I forgot where I buried it. Here is another key to understanding the psychology of the current election dynamic. It derives from 'the Merchants of Cool.'
Several years ago Frontline aired a documentary that explored the relationship between the marketing and media mavens, and the youth demographic they were targeting. Based upon their research, they developed a strategy to sell 'coolness' based on a couple of abstract templates--archetypes referred to by the marketing mavens as 'The Mook' and the 'Mid-riff'.
Armed with this knowledge, go back over the past decade of Viacom media production, and see if you can identify the archetypes. Britney Spears v1.0 personified the image they focused on. Young females want reassurance about their sexual power over males. Young males want to demonstrate their 'Prowess'. Hence the rise of programming like 'JackAss'. The merchant of cool are constantly researching the youth market in an endless feedback loop that resembles the process of evolution--almost grasped completely by the silly movie: 'Idiocracy'.
With McCain and Palin, the marketing archetype has been elevated to the level of a presidential campaign: with McCain (McNasty) the Mook, bragging about his days dating a stripper--and Palin as the Mid-riff--who was almost immediately photoshopped to put her head onto the bikinied image of a hot chick with an assault weapon.
In the culture wars--it's really the Mook and the Mid-riff vs the Poindexter.
In 'Idiocracy', anybody who spoke clearly(without cognitive dissonance) with just a little bit of knowledge was attacked and belittled for 'talking like a fag'.
If you missed the Frontline documentary, or want to revisit this excellent program, here is the link. LINK
Ask yourself, why has at least half the nation gone NUTS for a woman they know nothing about--especially a woman with a veneer thin professional resume, in a cloud of deceptions and improprieties? Becaue the public has been conditioned. The public has been programmed. Their buttons have now been pushed. The Mook and the Mid-riff Rule! She Rocks. In their own words.
Yes, you should be afraid. You should be very afraid. Wake up from their Matrix.

I forgot to mention--when Obama claimed yesterday that now we know why McCain is unable to define 'Honor'--Sean Hannity the Gorilla said(essentially)'how dare he(Obama) say that about a man who has had every bone in his body broken?'
Hmmmm--like Evel Knievel? Pure, unadulterated Mookdom, at it's finest. John McCain has no ideas: but he has PROWESS. Obama talks like a fag.(apologies to alternative lifestyle community)

I thought it was a huge mistake for Obama to silence Wes Clark. Wes went straight after the core of McCain's candidacy in a way only someone like Clark, a 4-star General, wounded Vietnam war hero, could have done.
Obama obviously thought the subject too risky to raise, but once Clark broached the topic Obama should have let that ensuing debate run awhile to see which way it developed.
This was worth a bit of risk because ii went after the whole basis of McCain's candidacy. Everything else about McCain's campaign is built on this notion of McCain's superior integrity, all current evidence to the contrary. Obama himself has helped to form McCain's integrity armour by his non-stop lauding McCain's military service.
So, now, McCain is free to run possibly the nastiest, most dishonorable campaign in our lifetimes, with little or no penalty from the press or voters.

I agree--it's like he was opposed to traditional conventional wisdom. I thought Clark was effective. NOW--Obama has given 527's the ok. Jeez, they've already disbanded--they're defunct. He told them thanks but no thanks. Now he realizes he needs them. I throw my hands up. This guy is MY David? Has he never seen Goliath? Does he know what he is about?
Democrats ALWAYS underestimate the lengths that Republicans are willing to go. ALWAYS. They never, ever aquire a sense of the pure evil of Republicans. Maybe cause they work with them everyday on the Hill? I mean, taking legislation designed to help little children avoid sexual predators--being misrepresented as wanting to teach SEX to little children. That is way more evil than Willie Horton, which was, to me the previous high water mark on Republican Evil tricks. It's like that Republican advisor said: Democrats play for lunch. Republicans play for keeps.
In 88, when Dukakis was asked if his wife were kidnapped and raped and murdered would he want the killers to get the death penalty, and without a moment's hesitation, he replied cooly--Not at all, Bernie. The race was over.
When Obama was asked when the rights of the unborn begin, and he stated, cooly that the question was 'above his pay grade'. The race may very well have been lost, in that instant.
When Al Gore strutted out on to the stage and announced, 'My Turn', the race was lost, in that moment.
When John Kerry pointed out that Dick Cheney's daughter was a Lesbian--he cashed in his electoral chips, right there.
This is not rocket science. These are cartoons you might see scrawled on the walls of a Cave in France. This is neolithic shit! They just don't get it. All Obama has to do to win the election is go to the debates and do push ups with one hand behind his back.
