Talking Points to Use Against McCain Supporters - Especially the Working Class

avatar

McCain wants to raise their taxes.

McCain wants to tax health care premiums as income, aside from the immorality of it - individuals have no control over the cost of their premiums - this is just evil. If your premium is $1000 a month for your family even if your employer pays it, you will be required to pay income tax on it under McCain's plan.

McCain is a Union Buster. McCain consistently votes to pass a National Right to Work Law - Right to Work is doublespeak for Ending Unions. Only 13% of the entire U.S. workforce is unionized, only 8% are true trade unions - the rest are governmental agency unions.

Without unions even people who don't earn union wages would see their wages go down or remain stagnant. Unions benefit all workers by demanding worker safety and higher wages - this puts demands on all employers to provide the same, regardless of union affiliation.

McCain has hired Bush's entire campaign team to run his own campaign.

Bush's campaign promises and positions have been proven to be lies.

"I'm a uniter not a divider"

"I don't believe in nation building"

Stick to the issues folks, the panic and free press you are giving Palin is meant to distract from McCain because he is not capable of standing up to criticism.

Wait for the debates. McCain won't have Palin to parrot her Convention speech - he will have to formulate his own position - the contrast will be magnificent.

Stop talking about Palin at all. Let her speak for herself. She has no new material and the American people are easily fatigued by reruns. Stop creating new news, force her to come up with something new - I promise she hit her high water mark in St. Paul.

What high water mark? She stood there and lied.

I sent the Obama campaign two potential ads today:

" In (year), Barack Obama supported a bill in the Illinois Legislature that helped children know when they were being inappropriately touched and encouraged them to report it. It was designed to protect small children from predators. (Quote two organizations who praised it.)

But now, John McCain, WILLING TO OUTRIGHT LIE TO WIN AN ELECTION, has twisted this story into a sex-drenched and perverse character smear. Recently in an interview, McCain said he could not define honor. Now we know why. McCain, WILLING TO SELL OUT HIS HONOR TO WIN AN ELECTION.

For the second ad:

Give several examples of the lies being told by McCain and Palin and the numerous quotes that refute them in the media, using words "false" misleading" dishonest" "lying", etc.

"IF THEY ARE WILLING TO LIE TO YOU SO EASILY NOW, WHAT WILL IT BE LIKE IF THEY RUN THE COUNTRY? HAVEN'T WE BEEN LIED TO ENOUGH? (picture of McCain and Bush)"

For someone who is truly undecided, those kinds of arguments might work. Might. For those who actually identify as a McCain supporters, though -- logic will not reach them. Facts will not reach them. Their support of McCain, and the Republican party in general, is entirely emotional and reflexive. They "know" that Obama is a Muslim, and no amount of arguing the facts will budge them from that. They "know" that Obama is a liar, even though they cannot give you any specific examples of it, and they "know" that McCain is trustworthy and honorable, and you can give them examples to the contrary until the cows come home (and no, Sarah Palin, I am not talking about you, even though I know you just went home and that -- well, let's not go there).

I'd like to think otherwise, but I've seen this all too often. They have had "Republicans good, Democrats bad" drummed into their heads so thoroughly that they simply do not take in evidence to the contrary that is right in their faces.

Good thing the undecideds are the ones we're after.

What were you looking for, talking points to taunt people with? This is an election, not a playground.
