Priorities: Rape Kits or Sports Complexes?
As Mayor of Wasilla building a $15 million sports complex, Sarah Palin faced a dilemma - $15,000 per year on rape kits, or not?
Sarah thought for a moment, and decided, "Let raped women pay for their own rape kits!" Thereby leaving only a $22 million town debt rather than $22.015 million.
This has been another episode of "Mean Mysoginist Mavericks in Government".
Viewers may send in their own recommendations for program topics to receive a free chance to set up large game leghold traps on the mayor's premises in Wasilla Alaska!!!*

This is a great issue to hammer on. It's despicable to the point of hitting you hard on that gut level, where it's needed most.
There are women out there who agree with Sarah Palin's views on abortion, but I seriously doubt there are many people, men or women, who won't find this disgusting.

Iraq is a great issue to hammer.
Palin is a distraction. Time spent hammering her is time NOT spent talking about McCain's biggest liabilites. That's why she was chosen.
We need to hammer the things almost all Americans are PISSED about. Iraq, Hedge Funds, Katrina, Unitary Executive, etc.
Like I said in a post yesterday, everyone in my family is a swing vote this year (they are normally Republican votes.) They're infuriated and embarrassed by Bush. Make this election about Iraq, their jobs , and their retirement funds and they will vote WITH us.
But if this election is all about God, guns, and abortion, they will vote against us. Palin was chosen because she puts all of those things at the forefront.

I totally agree with you, Desidero.

Oh you also have to add that preliminary construction had begun on the sports complex on land that was not theirs to build. Even with this knowledge, they built the monstrosity, adding another 1.3 mil in legal fees and years of litigation to the mix.

So not only is she horribly against women, she is also a horrible executive and manager.

Simple messages, simple soundbites. The populace isn't that swift. Keep it simple.

amen.
I think McCain wanting to tax employer paid health premiums as personal income should pique anyone's interest.
It would move some into higher tax brackets, and the cost is out of control - how can an individual be held (taxably) responsible for it?

Sarah Palin's Family Practice physician in Wasilla was a dedicated advocate for victims of sexual abuse, especially kids. I wonder if she brought this issue up to her patient the mayor.
Seems to me that this rape kit story is perfect for a 527 ad. Tie in the fact that rape and sexual abuse of children in Alaska is off the charts; it would be hard work for Missy Sarah to claim ignorance.

Quarterback Michael Vick received 23 months in prison for dog-fighting, with at least 6 dogs killed.
Sarah Palin brought in a law to allow private citizens to use helicopters & planes to shoot grizzly bears & wolves. So far at least 795 wolves have been killed.

Yeah, this one's gonna play with the swing vote crowd (a lot of them hunt.)
This is the game the GOP wants us to play.

Sarah Palin claimed to have sold the Alaskan Governor's jet on eBay. She didn't. It was sold directly to company owned by big game hunter, Larry Reynolds.
Reynolds wanted Palin's plane to to ensure comfortable trips for wealthy individuals to hunt bears & other big game, in Alaska.
But also in a jurisdiction just a short hop from Alaska, a place where big game hunting has also become a big business, and provided a big boost to its economy.
Russia.

Did you know you can see Russia right there from land right there in Alaska?!!??!! Amazing, isn't it?

620,000 soldiers were killed during the American Civil War, with President Abraham Lincoln leading the fight to defend the Union.
In 1991, the leader of an American extreme separatist group said, "The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government. And I won't be buried under their damn flag."
In 1993, that extremist - Joe Vogler - was killed while purchasing plastic explosives. His party was the Alaskan Independence party, which prefers to show the American flag with only 49, rather than 50, stars on it.
Sarah Palin's husband Todd joined the Alaskan Independence Party in 1995. He only officially resigned his membership in 2002, when his wife Sarah ran for state office.
Sarah Palin continues to speak at Conventions of the Alaskan Independence Party.

I would be very hesitant to use this line of attack without evidence. So far as I can tell, there is no record in the Wasilla Paper, nor comments from Palin in the Juneau paper after Knowles' bill passed, or in the state's largest paper, the Anchorage Daily News.
Unless there is proof, it makes democrats look just as dirty as the opposition. Take a page from the Obama playbook. There is ooodles of other facts and policies to take umbrage at.
Such as the aforementioned Jed Report - that's in the congressional record!

No proof she actually decided, certainly was Mayor at the time and should have known and rescinded the decision. Town of 5000-7000? Hard to imagine.

Maybe she should've billed the harbor seals for having their DNA swabbed. Save the taxpayers a few bucks.

The rape kit issue is appalling and should be hit hard.
What is equally appalling is Palin's view (which perfectly mirrors the Republican Party platform) that victims of rape who become pregnant should be forced by the government to carry their attacker's offspring.
