Palin to Institute That Which Already Exists
You've gotta love Sarah Palin. She's down-home. She's earthy. She also doesn't know shit about shit. From CNN:
Sarah Palin likes to tell voters around the country about how she “put the government checkbook online” in Alaska. On Thursday, Palin suggested she would take that same proposal to Washington. That's right, dudes and dudettes. As I was fond of pointing out during the primary, my man Obama worked "across the aisle", as those earthy, outside the beltway types like to say, with Tom Coburn-R (as in Republican) to pass legislation which created USASpending.gov.
“We’re going to do a few new things also,” she said at a rally in Cedar Rapids. “For instance, as Alaska’s governor, I put the government’s checkbook online so that people can see where their money’s going. We’ll bring that kind of transparency, that responsibility, and accountability back. We’re going to bring that back to D.C.”
There’s just one problem with proposing to put the federal checkbook online – somebody’s already done it. His name is Barack Obama.
Palin might also have noted that her running mate, John McCain, was
an original co-sponsor of the 2006 transparency bill that became law.
Yeah, she might have.

I had to read the post title a few times before I actually got it.
For some reason I kept thinking that Palin was going to be speaking at the "Institute That Which Already Exists"
I am a fan of Monty Python, maybe that explains the brain cramp.
I am still laughing at myself.

I've been waiting for the Manfred Mann song
"Quinn the Eskimo" to make an appearance at one of her rally's.
Anybody else think we'll hear it?

"Quinn" was actually first written and recorded by Bob Dylan, though the Manfred Mann version was the radio hit.
Given Dylan's present-day beliefs and politics, he might actually approve of the McCain campaign's using the song. Unlike the Wilson sisters, or John Hall, or Bruce Springsteen, etc. etc.
Who knows?

''But we've got this guy out there now who is redefining the nature of politics from the ground up ... Barack Obama,'' he [Dylan] was quoted as saying. ''He's redefining what a politician is, so we'll have to see how things play out. Am I hopeful? Yes, I'm hopeful that things might change. Some things are going to have to.''

So, if Obama helped pass it in 2006... and she did it in Alaska, after being elected governor in 2006. Might it be accurate to say that Palin followed Obama's lead?

The Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006 (S. 2590)[2] is an Act of Congress that requires the full disclosure to the public of all entities or organizations receiving federal funds beginning in fiscal year (FY) 2007.
Key word there is require.

And McCain co-sponsored this bi-partisan legislation with Obama and Coburn and yet he can claim with a straight face (well as straight as he can get his face to be, after all he is a POW) that Obama has not accomplished anything?
I see... The rain in Spain stays mainly in Latin America.

Hey guys - OT, and thanks (you know I'm not a spammer)
TBogg, Act Blue, some friends of mine and I don't know who else have started a drive to send donations to Planned Parenthood in "honor" of Sarah Palin. They can be as small as $5. The idea is to create an avalanche of Thank Yous from PP delivered to Sarah.
The link to donate in honor of someone is: https://secure.ga0.org/02/pp10000_inhonor
The address where acknowledgements should be sent is:
McCain for President
1235 S. Clark Street
1st Floor
Arlington , VA 22202
This is spreading through the tubes and if it gets big enough, it might get media interested.
Plus, it's damn fun to do!

Instituting that which has already been instituted is a bad move.
But in Palin's defense, at least she's not trying hard to recreate what had yet to be created, in the hopes that once in your life you'd muster a smile for her nostalgic tale.

And 54% say yes. I notice the logo at the top is OETA. That's what we in Oklahoma call PBS sometimes. That would explain the idiots who voted yes.
