Palin Slashed Funding for Teen Moms, In 2008..YUP! YUP!
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/09/02/palin_slashed_funding_to_help.html
Excerpt:
ST. PAUL -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican
vice-presidential nominee who revealed Monday that her 17-year-old
daughter is pregnant, earlier this year used her line-item veto to
slash funding for a state program benefiting teen mothers in need of a
place to live.
After the legislature passed a spending bill in April, Palin went through the measure reducing and eliminating funds for programs she opposed. Inking her initials on the legislation -- "SP" -- Palin reduced funding for Covenant House Alaska by more than 20 percent, cutting funds from $5 million to $3.9 million. Covenant House is a mix of programs and shelters for troubled youths, including Passage House, which is a transitional home for teenage mothers.

Gosh, she doesn't leave these girls too many "choices", does she?? No sex education, no contraception, no pregnancy terminations, and no place to live!

Well put. More "plan for the best" GOP foresight. "We'll be greeted as liberators." and so on.
I love the "yup yup" bit.
Rec'd.

At least she's consistent with her principles, in this case... part of the Republican meme is that people should be responsible for their own choices and the government shouldn't bail them out. (Corporations, on the other hand...)
The only people likely to find this notable are those of us who wouldn't be voting for Palin anyway.

Well, no, Palin does know that pregnant teens need care, support, compassion, and a place to live. That's why she's offering them to her daughter.
Likewise, she wants her daughter to have "privacy." It's just that, like most right-wingers, she's happy to deny to other, poorer kids what she can afford to give her own.

I don't know what to say... I have to admit I just almost started to cry. The more I read about this woman the more angry I get, but this just put me over the top. I am going to pretend that once she found out her daughter was pregnant she re-evaluated her position on these programs. Otherwise, it's just too incredible....ahhhhh! For lack of a better term "elitist." Please think about somebody less fortunate than yourself for once!

Still outraged at McCain's direction. This is scary. The only reason we're in this fix is that McCain still acts like he is a 23 year-old jet jock who really might need to make instantaneous life and death decisions. In this case, though, if something happens to McCain, then Sarah Palin becomes the leader of the free world! Settle down for a moment and ask yourself if we can actually be giving this possibility serious consideration? McCain is trying to pervert the system for his own personal ambition, not for the good of the country. "Country first"....indeed.

I'm interested in finding out what happens when the Firefighters/Police Departments get wind of her cuts and refusal to fund requests for new equipment...
Not to mention cutting funding for a Food Bank just before Thanksgiving....

Wow! I suppose Bristol is lucky to get Mom's help to find a place to live...to hell with all the other teen moms! No empathy.
I bet they are forcing Bristol and Levi to get married. Poor souls! Sucks to be Palin kid after all.
I bet they didn't talk about sex. Most conservatives don't but they don't want schools to talk about it either.

Bristol don't mean a damn to this star hockey player. Her love pita was just a place for him to score with his puck.

The baby daddy Levi, just got off the McCain plane and boarded the Straight Talk bus with the Palin clan headed to the Exell Center.
I kid you not!!
I thought they wanted this to be such a private family matter?
Why is the babydaddy now on the campaign trail if this is sooooooo private?!

Sarah is FOR pregnant teenage mothers who find Jesus and promise to marry their babydaddies. She's against all others. Standard GOP family values!

Yup? Yup?
Nope! Nope!
The article is both incorrect and misleading. Check the facts:
Covenant House Alaska grant income received from the State of Alaska:
(2006) $1.2 million
(2007) $1.3 million
(2008) $3.9 million
In 2008, Covenant House Alaska asked the state for $10 million to assist in the building of a new $22 million facility. The legislature appropriated $5 million, and Governor Palin used her line-item veto to limit this year's grant INCREASE to $2.6 million (a total grant this year of $3.9 million). Additional money will be allocated for this capital expenditure project over the next few years, a phased-in grant rather than all the money at once.
This was confirmed in a quote from the Executive Director of Covenant House Alaska, Deirdre Cronin:
"Despite some press reports to the contrary, our operating budget was not reduced. Our $3.9 million appropriation is directed toward a multi-year capital project and it is our understanding that the state simply opted to phase in its support for this project over several years, rather than all at once in the current budget year."
