Palin is a red herring

I think McCain's plans to withdraw Palin --pretty much at the
last minute-- and replace her.  Palin is completely distracting everyone
from both McCain and Obama.  Palin may be a fundamentalist, secessionist whackadoodle, but that makes her perfect for this role.  Nearly all of the response to her nomination has been what the GOP could call "unfounded personal attacks" on her and her family.  To them and their followers, it is the same anti-female bias we showed against Hillary Clinton.

I
can see it now.... "poor Palin, and poor McCain, the vicious personal
attacks from the partisan left were just too much.  If only the lefties had
focused on her qualifications, they would have seen what a great woman
she is, but alas, now we have to settle for Mitt Romney." The media will treat the replacement with kid gloves, and there will be no time left to mount the effective attacks we could have on McCain/Romney had he been the nominee originally.

We need to keep the focus entirely on McCain.  His choice has
reflected his political need to pander to the fundies and women and
he's put the needs of his campaign above the needs of America.  That's it.  Nothing else
about Palin -- pretend she doesn't exist.  She's an unqualified
nobody.  Doesn't deserve any attention at all.

I have to admit the absurd Palin choice has so confused me that my reasoning has alternated from over-simplification to conspiracy theory. Your explanation seems as good as any to me. I have had the feeling since the announcement that she would not make it to November for some reason. I will not pledge, but I will certainly try to heed your advice.

Palin is more a defensive choice than offensive...

The only votes she helps with are Alaska and anti-abortion/pro-life supporters. Basically the same thing could have been done with Huckabee.

What she does do is prevent all active criticism from the Obama campaign because they are too worried about taking any risk of appearing sexist and alienating women.

If Palin is completely ignored, none of the negatives (of which she seems to be an obsessive collector) will be reported, thus there would appear to be no reason to remove her from the ticket.

Better the least personal of the sleaze/slime/dirt/scandals be pointed out as being hardly hidden, and then pointing to McSame recklessly picking corruptions which are entirely contrary to his phony "maverick" image.

Otherwise, she'll get a few votes from the Hypocrite Fundies mob, but even most Alaskans are vomiting over this debacle.

I say leave her on the ticket, and hang her around McSame's neck.

but even most Alaskans are vomiting over this debacle.

Evidence, please? I would love to get my hands on some data like that.

Thanks.
