PALIN FOR POTUS, OR MCCAIN?
It seems to me that the Republicans are voting for Palin - not McCain. I saw an interview with Bay Buchanan who admitted she was not going to vote for McCain or attend the RNC convention but now that Palin is on the ticket, she will vote. Days later, I saw an interview with evangelicals who admitted that they are voting for Palin - not McCain. Maybe the Republicans do not think McCAin will last 4 years and they are using him to get Palin as POTUS. She is from an oil State and he is married to beer. Could that be the October surprise? They will get rid of McCain and keep Palin? Poor John don't even see it coming. This is politics.

When Palin was first named, I checked the Republican rules for their order of succession and under their rules, if something were to happen to either their Presidential or Vice Presidential nominees, they'd have to hold a "mini" convention like the Democrats did in '72.
"Mini" is somewhat of a misnomer because there's rules about who must attend, but any way you look at it, they'll have to get together to vote (the Dems did it in a hotel ballroom) and the vice presidential candidate doesn't automatically become the nominee.
Personally, I don't think Palin has enough respect to be the default at this time and by late October, she'd still appear very weak against Obama, so I wouldn't be surprised if Romney might decide to vie for the spot. After all, though I wish no one any harm and by no means do I want to plant any ideas, but any such turmoil in the Republican ranks would just deepen the expected Obama victory in my opinion.

Well, no kidding. If McCain keeled over or had some serious health problems that made him withdraw from the campaign, nobody would nominate Palin.
But that's irrelevant and beside the point, IF that completely unlikely event happened, Obama would win in a landslide.
I don't wish anything like that on McCain though. But I have entertained thoughts of that happening to Bush AND Cheney the past few years. I'm a patriotic American, like Samuel Adams. And in my heart I believe America would be better off if both of them had died or resigned or PREFERABLY been impeached & imprisoned... or whatever, just been gone.

Yesterday while canvassing, I asked a gentleman if he had decided who he will vote for in November. His answer: Sarah Palin.
