can't handle even the major donors' questions or is it something else...hmnn...maybe a replacement?

She's being put back on ice. Too late to replace her, even if that idea crossed Schmuck Talk's head.
She'll stay on ice until the Veep debate, is my bet.

Here’s my blog take, I think after the “stump the candidate” fiasco, followed by the online checkbook cluelessness, Schmuck Talk Express™ realizes they’ve got to cram something into her head.

"She's being put back on ice. Too late to replace her"
Yeah, too late. I think the election is now over, though, no matter what McBush does.
They are probably rescheduling Palin for only critical states where they have at least a decent chance.
It's pretty sorry that they have to use their VP cand. as the more appealing person on the ticket. Even MASSIVE voter fraud will not help McBush at this point, IMO.
I look for double digit leads in the polls shortly.

I can understand CA and WA, I don't believe they have a chance. Are they too confident about OH? I have a feeling you think she's outta there...but from their site she's still on for FL next week.

Hmmnn...but these are fundraisers. It's just about money; they weren't going there to try to turn WA and CA red because that can't happen. Why not go and get the cash? I live in WA. She could go to the 8th CD (Gates' district) and make a truck load of dough in one night. Same with Orange county. Seems weird.

Yeah, if you're a Repub, you don't pass up the big $$ cash from the OC unless something is up.

WA is considered a swing state in this election. After the republican convention Obama's double digit lead here is now down to 4.2 points. Although Seattle and the puget sound region is pretty blue the entire eastern portion of the state is very red. I can say though that people are mobilized and we are working hard making calls and registering voters. The Obama enthusiasm is huge here in Seattle and only got bigger last week. I'll be registering voters tomorrow along with a huge number of other volunteers. Oregon is also a swing state this election, they have a large swath of red in their state too.

Do you hear the faint whispers of "family commitments" coming down the lane? It would be pretty awful to drop her and get someone else ...... but would that really be worse than keeping her?
(Oh, but just THINK of the women who would be furious -- with reason. If your goal is to see a woman, any woman, in as Pres or VP -- then the folks that picked a woman who was so unqualified she had to be dropped is more insulting than never picking a woman in the first place.)
When I saw the interview with Gibson, I was looking for an announcement the next day that they were replacing her with someone else. --- Of course by this point I hope they DON'T, but I wouldn't be too surprised.

I have always thought she would would self-dump--so many excuses. As another blogger said, then McWispy can say he "tried" but the liberals and press "wolves" just chased her to the ground and shot her down (sorry to remind you of that ad). Besides now that she is an instant brand she has a HUGE career ahead of her--the talk shows, the books, the speeches. Who needs real work and responsibilities.

someone over on DKOS confirmed that the events are being rescheduled to the first week of October. I am thinking that it's because of legal wrangling over Troopergate and having to consult with her lawyer next week about the subpoena and her husband. Her husband can be jailed for not responding to the subpoena, unlike her staff.

EVERYONE who ignores a subpoena can be jailed for doing so.
Not only private citizens.

Blowing off CA seems stupid. Yes she would spend time in a state where the "Palin-McCain" ticket (as she has called it) is a no hoper, but that's not the point. The point is money, and as the late Lt. Gov. of California, Jesse Unruh, once put it, "Money is the mother's milk of politics."

McCain is learning the lesson taught by my favourite instructor at university, Richard Scammon. He said that a presidential candidate picks a running mate because he must. The top of the ticket is not looking for balance or getting a new constituency. The candidate is merely trying not to add any more holes to his head. McCain never heard Mr. Scammon apparently. This btw was in a course I took in the fall of 1972 on the heels of the Thomas Eagleton fiasco.

Interesting. I've also read that you don't pick someone who so clearly wants your job. Cheney was happy being in the shadows--his favorite place. Palin's mention of a Palin/McCain Administration not once but several times has sent her to the corner.

I even put in on my blog yesterday:
>>> I think now that they're finally getting around to vetting her, they've found something that's going to destroy her politically. They're trying to keep a lid on it while they set up a scenario where she drops out because of the strain on her family.

If she is coming off the ticket she needs to be off w/ a replacement before the end of next week in order for state ballots to be printed correctly..
I said weeks ago she was not going to make it..

Palin is a local government hack. The crap you get away with in a small town just doesn't cut it at the federal level. I cannot believe that the McCain camp thought this would fly. She has NO KNOWLEDGE of issues at the federal level. No one could learn it as fast as she is expected to. It's not fair to her, but hell, life isn't fair. She should have said no. It's that cocky certitude (a la Bush) that is operative here. But she doesn't have the huge cryopreserved infrastructure that Bush did. She is flying solo...destined to crash. And I, for one, will cheer.

I'm still wondering if she and her husband ever filed tax returns - He was a member of the Alaska Independence Party, right??? It's total conjecture, but has anyone seen her tax returns? She's not becoming a grandma until Christmas, so that event is not forthcoming. Didn't she just make a gaffe about Biden's age - Saying something like she was in second grade when he entered the Senate. mcsenile is certainly old enough to be at least her grandfather, so maybe he had one of his temper tantrums about that! Did she really finally graduate from U of Idaho or just join the alumni association so it looked like she graduated? How's she going to get the debate prep she so desperately will need if those fundraisers have been rescheduled for the first week of October - The VP debate is October 2 in St. Louis. All of this is just conjecture, but something's up! Maybe that's why she's taking the week off - so they give her some sort of "brain implant", something like that little transceiver device Bush was wearing in the 2004 debates, only less noticeable. See article from Salon:
http://dir.salon.com/story/news/feature/2004/10/13/transmitter/index.html
Maybe she should go through some sort of "airport security" like screening before the debate with Biden - just in case she's been wired.
September 18, 2008 8:52 PM | Reply | Permalink
I think they will try to wire her. There is no way she can pull it off without it, it's too long and deep of a debate. I don't think she could cram for a month and pull it off. I wonder what couold be done to expose or jam it.

A frequency-agile scanner would expose it rather nicely. What people then do with the audio is entirely up to them.

September 18, 2008 9:43 PM | Reply | Permalink
Well, in Florida, the term is "probable thunderstorms"-- We have a lot of them, usually in the early afternoon.
If she's banking on a clear week to visit, I recommend sometime in December.

Possible/probable thunderstorms is a pretty reliable lie -- er, excuse -- anywhere on the planet, with a few exceptions, like North and South poles, deserts . . .

Well, that is the theory anyway! Though, if you have watched McCain anytime in the last week you will notice he can't come on stage or do anything without Palin right there by him. I have seen reports where the crowd leaves at even the pure right wing events after she is done speaking and McCain begins. Sad, very sad...

Y'all are so funny. LOL
Iam confused about public financing:
This may sound ignorant, but I do not understand why Palin and McCain are raising money considering they travel as a dual on Cindy's private jet at a super-discounted rate and most of McCain's ads contain her name ...
I was under the impression that after the convention McCain would be given $85 million dollars in public funding. The terms of the agreement prohibit spending money from other sources including money -- if any -- left over from his primary campaign.
So he is limited to spending only the $85 million dollars period, right ?
Therefore the fund-raising events would be solely for Palin's campaign unless she is bound under the public finance laws, too?
Iam not sure how this works.
Would somebody please explain this to me.

The fundraisers are for the RNC, not McCain's campaign. Same difference I guess, the RNC can use the $$$ for attack ads, mailers, tutors for Sarah, etc.

They pulled her off the CA, WA, and OH appearances due to the fact that if McMetamucil shows up solo without her there's a 40% to 50% reduction in the turnout for his townhall style appearances.

September 19, 2008 11:30 AM | Reply | Permalink
I disagree. Bush/Cheney had operatives all over and a machine in place. They pulled out Poppy Bush's cryopreserved staff. That's what made their operations work, thanks to Uncle Dick. You can't go it on your own at the national level--there's too much to know. You have to surround yourself with smart people, not fire good people because they don't your personal issues seriously. I'm talking about the level of government, the complexity of the issues, and the need for lots of support. Did they get away with crap? Of course they did, but it was because they were good at it.

When I saw this in the news I deduced that the polls look bad in key states and they were going to use her there. If the Calif. and Wash. events have been rescheduled, that or other immediate needs may be the case. Maybe someone should set up a pool on this. Choices:
1. She needs time to attend to legal matters around Troopergate.
2. They need her to punch up their support in battleground states.
3. Due to aggregate of flaws and faux pas or to impending bombshell (tax evasion?) they are going to dump her.
If they dump her they'd have to replace her with Romney, touting his supposed economic expertise and project him as the designated econ dude or another woman. It'd have to be a right wing woman, and if it were, that could give McCain another big bounce.

The evangelicals and "values voters" will sit home in a snit.
More likely a combo of legal wrangles back home and, as several have observed, she being iced--to avoid any more unscripted moments.
