She was for it, and then though it was canceled she kept the money to spend on other projects. The funniest part is that they kept building the roads leading up to the bridge on either side because if those projects were canceled they'd have to return the money. So there is a road leading up to the waters edge on each side, but no bridge - "The roads to nowhere"...
