"Out of touch" Bill Clinton sent just one email during his presidency
Bill Clinton, seen by 87% of Americans as having been a good or excellent president (Harris Poll, April, 2008), sent just one email during his 8 years as president of the United States. The email was addressed to a NASA space shuttle.
Technically he sent two, but the other one was a test to make sure he knew how to send emails:
LITTLE
ROCK, Arkansas (Reuters) -- The archives of the Bill Clinton
presidential library will contain 39,999,998 e-mails by the former
president's staff and two by the man himself.
"The only two he
sent," Skip Rutherford, president of the Clinton Presidential
Foundation, which is raising money for the library, said on Monday.
One of them may not actually qualify for electronic communication because it was a test to see if the commander in chief knew how to push the button on an e-mail.

His low e-mail count makes him officially an out of touch ex-president, according to Obama-campaign logic.

Email was not in widespread usage back then. It is now, so get bent, you perpetual dimwit.

1992 is TOTALLY just like 2008. I don't know what you're talking about, liam!

(and naturally, I'm sure Bill Clinton doesn't know how to use e-mail today or anything....)

If email was not widespread, how come his staff sent 39,999,998 as you would know if you had read the diary?

I wrote my first emails in 2000.

But his staff sent 39,999,998 emails before 2000. Why?

In 1992, I didn't yet have any sort of email account at my office. I didn't set up my own free yahoo email address until 1998, if I recall.
Nice try, though, sunshine.

Moonshine, why did his staff send 39,999,998 emails?
September 15, 2008 10:08 PM | Reply | Permalink
By the way, I doubt the official email account in the White House back then was "yahoo." Bias makes people make funny arguments sometimes.

LOL, truthy sunshine, the gov't had access to email programs before my company did, #1.
I was just using yahoo as an example, #2.

Oh gee, because THEY had email? They sent them to each other, duh.
In 1990, most companies were just starting to get email, as were most households.
Who, exactly would the Prez have sent them to?
I suppose you expect that Old Bill should have done his own typing and licked his own stamps, too? What else? Paid his own gas bill? Hauled his own trash?
Stuff and nonsense.

McCain will have to send emails, otherwise he will be out of touch; therefore we can't hold Bill Clinton to a different standard.
September 15, 2008 10:19 PM | Reply | Permalink
No, we should hold him to George W's example. How many did ol Georgie send?
September 15, 2008 10:24 PM | Reply | Permalink
If W has sent few emails, he's out of touch. If he has sent many, he's not out of touch. That's the bottom line.

And if he used alternate email accounts to send and then delete his most damning emails, who's to say?
Who needs Fawn Hall and her shredder, these days?
Oh, and um, Palin used personal email accounts whilst mayor and governor in order to hide her conversations from the people too.
Still wanna go here?

You criticize me for mentioning the staff, but you do not criticize LisB for using herself (and her yahoo account) as an example, as if a chatter named LisB can be used as reference when speaking about an ex president of the United States.
Very convenient. I tell you, bias makes people use funny arguments.

Maybe Bill sent thousands of yahoo emails? Who cares?
You're nit-pique is silly. But kinda entertaining.
'salute!'
Oh, let us know when you find GW's numbers, otherwise, you might as well compare ol McCain to Kennedy.

Not only that, but Bill Clinton never drove a hybrid.
He didn't even have a cell phone before he moved into the white house, did he.
geez.
Rove-bots really ARE that stupid.

LMAO this spin is wonderful. Yes 92 is EXACTLY like 2008 technologically? AMIRITE?

First of all, Bill Clinton was not president in 1992 only. You left out the rest of the years (1993-2001)
Second, if you suggest that emails were uncommon, how come his staff sent 39,999,998 emails? I mean, they couldn't have sent those in 2008, or could they?
September 15, 2008 10:22 PM | Reply | Permalink
Why are those 40,000 emails in Clinton's Library?
(wait for it....)

Folks:
Let us boil things down to their simplest level, so this Perez Moron might be just able to grasp a clue.
John McCain recently admitted that he still did not know how to log on to the INTERNET, or send an Email.
Moron Perez just confirmed that Bill Clinton learned how to do those same tasks over eight years ago.
In Moron Perez's addled mind, Bill Clinton actually having the foresight to actually go ahead and start to send Email more than eight years ago, is the same as John McCain not having even started to do so for another eight years, even though, during those past eight years, Email has become an accepted commonplace means of communication.
Bill Clinton say the future and took the learning steps neccessary to keep up. McCain did not.
Moron Perez does not understand the difference.
Feel sorry for this Perez Moron.

September 15, 2008 10:58 PM | Reply | Permalink
lol, you typed "moron" therefore your comment kicked ass. Yeah, makes much sense to me.
You said nothing about how Clinton's lack of emailing abilities made him an out of touch president or not. You just rambled and called me names because you were angry and frustrated.
September 15, 2008 10:50 PM | Reply | Permalink
That's just it. Clinton clearly demonstrated emailing abilities. The record shows that after training, he used the ability in a practice environment. He then applied those skills to sending not just an email - but sending an email to outer fucking space!
But in the big picture - the dude's been out of office for like a decade! Why the hell do we care if he's in touch or not?
It seems you republicans will do ANYTHING to avoid having a contest between Obama and McCain! Can't say I blame you - Obama emails, texts, twitters, can post to facebook; and on top of all that he's got excellent plans for healthcare, the economy, energy independence and fighting terrorism. McCain is clueless on ALL OF THE ABOVE - why did we stop with just email?
September 15, 2008 11:19 PM | Reply | Permalink
Besides, Bill Clinton had to wait for Al Gore to invent the internets! Al was busy getting the bugs out and eliminating double posts, and server errors, redesigning the interface, adding more buttons, tweaking stuff...
September 15, 2008 10:54 PM | Reply | Permalink
No matter how Moron Perez tries to spin it; it still boils down to the fact that Bill Clinton learned how to send Email more than eight years ago, and John McCain is just now trying to do so.
Bill Clinton has been Internet literate for at least eight years, and John McCain still isn't.
That is the bottom line folks. Moron Perez thinks that makes McCain look good.
It actually shows him to be completely behind the times, and confirms, once again that this Perez Moron wouldn't recognize The Truth if it Emailed him 24/7!

I want to know how many e-mails W sent to outer space.
Heck, Nixon, too
September 15, 2008 11:27 PM | Reply | Permalink
That only means he's not out of touch anymore, but he was out of touch as president. If McCain sends more than one email, he will be less out of touch than Clinton was. We'll see.
September 15, 2008 11:30 PM | Reply | Permalink
McCain: zero emails in zero years as president.
Clinton: one email in 8 years as president.
Since nobody can possibly send more than zero email while serving as president for zero years, McCain cannot be said to be out of touch, while Clinton has been proven to be out of touch (1 email in 8 years: pathetic).
Typing "moron" doesn't make your comments less irrelevant.

Applying Moron Perez's logic:
If a President McCain turns on one HDTV set in the White House then he will prove that Abraham Lincoln was way out of touch for not having done the same thing.
September 15, 2008 11:36 PM | Reply | Permalink
There were not HDTV sets when Lincoln was alive, therefore you have earned the nickname of Liamoron.
*note: Although you have so far called me moron, you have done so without justification. The Lincoln comment makes you a genuine moron, Liamoron..
September 15, 2008 11:53 PM | Reply | Permalink
Wow Folks! He really is a truth seeker. He has revealed that their were no HDTV sets during Abraham Lincoln's period,
and you folks thought that Perzez was not a genuine revealer of hidden truths.
September 16, 2008 12:05 AM | Reply | Permalink
You inexplicably bring up the HDTV false analogy in the first place. This discussion is about emails, which existed during both the 90's and the current decade. '
Why would any sane perosn, my angry friend Liamoron, include HDTV's in this discussion? Are you mentally ok?
September 16, 2008 12:29 AM | Reply | Permalink
I see that in addition to your many other mental defects, you are also incapable of grasping when you have been lampooned and satirized.
You are just the type of block head that McCain/Palin is counting on.
September 16, 2008 12:35 AM | Reply | Permalink
Don't hide behind the satire excuse. You have used many faulty arguments that have been debunked by me, a mentally sane person. You were not attempting to "lampoon" me. You were trying to win the argument, and you failed miserably, Mr. HDTV.

This post takes the symptom for the disease, the opposite of: McCain is out of touch. One indicator of his sorry assed condition is the fact that he doesn't even know how to use a computer or send an email.
On the other hand, Bill Clinton was never out of touch (neither literally nor figuratively).
End of story.
