I think the Dems should introduce a new term to all this Republican attack of last resort of blaming the "liberal, elitist" media when they want to obscure the issue.  For some reason this always works for them because, but at some point voters have to start viewing this as whining.  Dems should send out surrogates everywhere and just repeat over and over: "Oh there they go again, overplaying the media card."  And explain that Republicans always only shout this when they can't answer questions about the issues.
