I had a few blogs related to this but in short:
Accepting that congress 'will' pass a bail out plan, I am doing my very best to try to get them to put true oversight, checks and balances, and accountability into the bill. Of all the provisions I feel this is of the greatest importance.
I propose that congress appoint one democrat and one republican member to act as co-signers on all transactions by the treasury under this bill. These co-signers would sit on the review board (which as the bill stands currently only consists of people appointed by the president) which would allow for transparency. The review board should have the power to halt the program if it is not working or is being abused in any way and send it back to congress for adjustments. All members are fully accountable for their actions under the law.
I have asked all of my representatives not to support the bill without these measures. I believe as it stands currently there is still immunity in the bill for Paulson and he is being given economic superpowers. This should not be. He has been incompetent and there must be checks on his actions.
I think pairing these checks and balances with the portioning of amounts as is in the current version of the bill this 'experiment' can be engaged with fairness and care to see if it works and it can buy us some time to put a new president and a new congress in place to make changes to our eoonomic systems.
We have a responsibility to protect ourselves from an adminstration that has repeatedly abused its power and acted against the best interest of the american people.

Okay, starting to understand the TPM Rec system.
Anything posted before noon the day before is tossed out? So my post from 4am yesterday is gone by about midnight, i.e. about 20 hours later even with 150 Recs? (Not sure when the switch happens). But ones posted at 12:15pm yesterday are still around?
Anyway, for the 3 people who missed it:

My experience is that they typically cycle out every 24 hours, pretty much on time, from the moment of posting. Once in a while, most commonly on Sunday, the new post list freezes, as does the rec'd list.

Looking at the ones that stayed put, it looked pretty much like only stuff after noon got left, and that was well before the 24 hour mark.

To make it clear, mine rolled away many hours before it hit the 24 mark, somewhere closer to 20.

You overloaded the system with too many recs, Des.

Heh heh heh, ayup, they though they'd given me a reasonable quota, and then I gamed the system.
Next time I'll hit 1000 and they'll be down for a week.

would ask management to put the Reader Blog archives back now that they have the new server, some of us could go back to looking at more posts than the last 20.
They "temporarily" removed them. The last time the did a temporary like that they never put them back because there weren't enough squeaky wheels.
I put the same question on Josh's Sept. 25 post on site issues

and there was no response. I think cause no one else is complaining.
Rescues like this thread and recommends are only so necessary because they disabled archives. I was in the habit when using the site of always checking out more than the initial page of Reader Blogs, scanning them for good stuff, and I am sure lots of other people did it that way, too. But now since they disabled, after a few hours, it's all gone into the ether.

Thanks for putting this up again -- there are two posts from recent days that I really regret having gotten lost - will locate them (somehow) and put them here but just wanted to say thanks!

I thought this Palin debate snark was overlooked. There have been few attempts at snark lately, so I repost this:

Also, I'm not going to post about it here this week, but I am doing radio talk against on Wednesday at 805 EDT tomorrow/1105 PDT at krxa540.com, talking election and maybe TPM. If I am allowed, the discussion point from TPM this week I'd build around is Des' post yesterday, which I think reflects how Dems are moving past the petty arguments, recognizing they need all hands on deck to win big, and even more so, to try to steer past the crap in the economy afterward. Our party will own solving this problem soon, so the need for unity can't be trivialized as some kind of kumbaya bullshit thing, and I thought Des' post and thread brought that out well.

Actually this is a pretty good place to announce your radio show (aside from saving a redux of Billy Glad ridicule).
It's funny, this whole site could have so much more of individual content (like the personal recommend lists were supposed to work, for example, so we wouldn't need this one, just find a few people we like and read their rec list).
Anyway, my tour of the Marianas and Aleutians went so well last week, I'm off to the Outer Hebrides and Nova Scotia to talk about urban crowding. Should be fun, usually rioting at the turnstiles.

^%$#@ -- Looks like posts I was talking about can't be reached since I don't remember who initially put them up.
One was about the racial aspect of Obama's running (sort of a current update) with a longish title including something like "There's a Black Man Running......" Sound familiar? Really interesting discussion.

I did a simple Google search with "TPM 'Black Man.'" I love research.
