McCain Will Neither Cease Nor Desist

The recent cease and desist order to the McCain campaign from Universal Music Publishing and Sony BMG on behalf of Ann and Nancy Wilson, the sisters better known as Heart, isn't the first time McCain has engaged in intellectual property theft.

Heart was unhappy with the campaign's decision to play "Barracuda" as a sort of theme song for Sarah "Baracuda" Palin.

Van Halen asked the McCain campaign to cease and desist from using the song "Right Now."

Jackson Browne asked the McCain campaign to cease and desist from using the song "Running on Empty."

Mike Myers and Saturday Night Live asked the McCain campaign to cease and desist from using a "we're not worthy" clip from a "Wayne's World" sketch.

Warner Music Group asked the McCain campaign to cease and desist from using Frankie Valli's song "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You."

Representative John Hall, onetime member and songwriter of the band Orleans, asked the McCain campaign to cease and desist from using his song "Still the One."

John Mellencamp asked the McCain campaign to cease and desist from using his songs "Our Country," and "Pink Houses."

Last year Fox News Channel asked the McCain campaign to cease and desist from using debate clips owned by Fox News in his political advertisements.

ABBA asked the McCain campaign to cease and desist from using their song "Take a Chance on Me."

Chuck Berry asked the McCain campaign to cease and desist from using his song "Johnny B. Goode."

McCain, of course, hates intellectual property piracy, but seems incapable of stopping it within his own campaign.
