McCain campaign picking up the tab for Todd and Sarah's legal fees?
Sarah and Todd Palin are both represented in the Troopergate investigation by an Anchorage attorney, Thomas Van Flein. There's some dispute over just whom Van Flein is working for. Colberg said Friday that Van Flein is on contract with the state to represent the governor, although the state has nothing to do with his representation of Todd.
But Van Flein, who has been getting advice from a lawyer working on the McCain-Palin campaign, insists he canceled the state contract on Sept. 12.
Colberg said he does not think Van Flein has received any money from the state. Palin's gubernatorial spokesman, Bill McAllister, said that's his understanding as well. Van Flein said the state is not paying his fees and that the Palins are responsible. But he wouldn't say whether they were paying directly, or if the money is coming from the McCain campaign or some other source.

He isn't working for free.
Originally $95,000.00 state monies were allocated for him to defend Palin against the state investigation . . .
Who is paying him now? If everyone says the state isn't, then it's Palin or McCain campaign. Palin is part of the McCain campaign.

If this is true, then the mccain campaign is paying the legal fees with taxpayer $$$ since their campaign is taking the federal funding for the general election. I think this is worth investigating.
Either way, state or federal, I would think it's illegal. Clinton had to pay his own legal fees in the impeachment, but set up a legal defense fund. Libby did the same thing.
They can set up a legal defense fund for palin. All of mccain's lobbyists friends will gladly chip in.

actually, as regards being worth investigating --the real question is who's paying for Todd's?
